I've actually had that happen to me before. It was yearssss ago, and my sig somehow got replaced with a giant picture of a person. It was really weird. o__O

If you're certain you didn't put it there, and you're even more certain an Administrator didn't notify you that he/she put it there (albeit, I have no clue why he/she would ...) I'd just remove it.

Did you used to have a different image there first?

If you link to an image uploaded somewhere you have no access, whoever is hosting the image (or any file really) could put a different file up with the same name, your sig would then automagically link to a different picture, even though the link is the same
