[Couldn't find a topic about this + definatly worth opening a topic]

I watched it a week ago and I loved it. Although it was bloody and some nude was involved, the amount of content in those 13 episodes was perfectly and well constructed.

It reminded me of Love Hina a bit, but with a completely different topic.

I loved the end, because it was very open and not too sad.

Overall I'd say 9.8/10

What do you think?

PS: If you mention any content plz spoil it like this :

I loved this series.

It's proof that anime is for adults too.

The anime is good, but like with many other series, the manga is better. And more grotesque. :o

Because of the maturity involved. I'd like to see some kid stay interested in Elfen Lied to be honest. I don't see it.

But yeah I just watched it for the third time because I recomended it to Knux and watched it with him. So yeah.

I LOVE IT.

I wish the Manga was still being translated but it's not :( It goes further than the Anime and is oh sooo good.

Anyway Elfen Lied and Death Note tie for #1 Anime in my book.

Finished it yesterday + this topic deserves a bump

This is my favorite anime now, hands down. (And FMA has been my favorite for 2 years now) This series is just awesome. Once I can scrounge up a little more money I'll start reading/buying the manga. Usually I don't read manga that much (gets expensive >.>) but I definetly want to read this whole series. :D

At the very end was that Lucy at the door, or was it just an open ending? If it was, would her personality still by split with Nyu, or would she have been Lucy for good?

My intepretation is that Lucy has three personalities.

She has the lonely child personality that she ended up losing sometime eight years ago because she completely embraced her evil personality (the masked spirit in her daydreams, and the one who probably caused her to do her first few killings). She let go of her normal personality at the carnival, I like to think that her dropping Kohta's hat was symbolic of that. So lets call these Evil Lucy and Normal Lucy.

Nyu on the other hand seems to be something entirely different, however she still shares the memories of Evil Lucy (which explains why she cut her hair to look like Kohta's sister) and she was manifested as a result of Evil Lucy being shot in the head.

I doubt it was Nyu at the door since it would just be weird seeing as Kohta remembers everything. Chances are, it's probably Normal Lucy. She let go of Kohta at the festival, now she's coming back to him. In fact, Evil Lucy didn't really seem to have any intention of staying around with Kohta, she just wanted to apologize for utterly screwing his life up.

Way too much unneeded nudity/violence in there. Doesn't serve any purpose much of the time.

Apart from that it's quite good.

I actually agree with that ^_^;
It's probably to make the anime more attractive, but as the stpry is already pretty interesting, it is unneeded.

Finally got around to watching this, and finished it over the last couple of days. :D It was quite good! It's a whole lot different than other animes I've seen both in animation style, storyline, etc., but that's fine and it's all suited to the type of story it is. Also it apparently provides some really good avatar and signature images! :awesome:

I would agree a little bit. The nudity bothered me more than the violence, especially after seeing District 9, but it was obviously required in order to follow the storyline, whether in the laboratory compound or at home depicting Nyuu's personality. But in several places it was just...why?

That makes pretty good sense, though I'm not sure if Nyuu cut her hair like that because of shared memories or because she saw the framed photo.

I'd say it was due to the photo since she reverted to Lucy whenever a memory came back.

Honestly I don't think the series would have had the same feel without the nudity. They weren't given clothes because they were just test subjects that were considered no different than wild animals. I'm not about to go and cloth a wild animal that I'm going to launch cannonballs at. And I liked that it happened outside of the lab as well since the dicloni were used to being naked as it was. It would be strange to think they'd suddenly cover themselves all the time. And I loved the bath scenes. I think that showed how little the dicloni understood about the embarrassment of being nude in front of others.

I might have to put my DVDs in my computer again and give them another watch. I've been in the mood to re-watch this series recently.

Never seen the anime, but I've read the entire manga. It was pretty good, though the science behind it was...iffy, at best. Nothing new there. I think they could have made it less gruesome; to me, it seemed as though most of the characters that wind up in a fight are more intent on causing pain and dismemberment than killing.
Oh, and why are the vectors always hands? Many times, another shape would be more useful. Wings, blades, spears...

Exactly, but at the same time, anything within reach becomes a weapon, although you can't do as much with a piece of clothing as with anything else. You could choke someone with it, but if it's only that distance, a death-by-vectors would be just as easy. (But still!)

well even a blade of grass becomes deadly at a high enough speed. I also imagine they wanted to keep an eye on the body since the main study was on their vectors. If there was any side-effect I'm sure they wanted to see them.
