I will probably not go and see this just because I read the book and the book was really good and looking at the previews for the movie, it doesn't seem like it would follow the book very much.

The promo posters at the movie theater had three phrases I don't remember what they are but they had very little to do with the story that I read.

One of the worst adaptations in movie history.

If you've ever read the ACTUAL epic, it's almost completely different from the movie. I hate how they portrayed Hrothgar as this drunk and Beowulf as this pompous jerk. They didn't even get Grendel and Grendel's Mother right! Not to mention the time sequences are completely off.

I AM BEOWULF! we get it already...

WTF with casting Angelina Jolie as Grendel's Mother? She's supposed to be this huge, disgusting, scary, ugly beast, not a sexy, naked woman!

Grendel attacks when everyone is asleep! DUH!

Terrible. I heard the director read an abridged version of Beowulf as well.

I saw it without any previous knowledge of the book or story with a couple of friends.
First I didn't realize it was all animated, second I thought they didn't build up the story good enough and therefore I felt no suspense thirdly from watching the previews I would imagine the fight scenes to be as cool as the ones in 300 but for some reason it was not as appealing to me.

I completely agree with blackmage. I read the novel in British Literature this year, and just from the trailers, I can tell the movie fails at an unbelievable level.

Grendel's mother is supposed to be a hiddeous monster. I don't know if you can possibly mess the novel up more than this movie has.

Also, Beowulf does not get down with Grendel's mother in the novel. Hell.. freaking.. no..

Since I haven't read the novel, I didn't think it was too bad. But I think that Angelina Jolie part was a bit overdone. Didn't really tie up many loose ends either, he just kinda..died..

It's not a novel, it was an "epic" - which means really long poem. Unless the novel is some kinda abridged version of the poem.
