death note question

yeah, I started watching it. it's really good, but i think i might be to the described point where its goodness drops off a bit :[

anyway, this might be "spoiler"ish, so dont read below if you actually want to watch the series (ITS REALLY GOOD, WATCH IT SOME TIME)

Okay so anyway, question:

During episode 16, when he discarded his death note, what the heck is up with that? I mean, the whole idea is that he will go get it back though, right? But why, oh why did he have to discard it at all? Couldn't he just act like he had no idea without going to that length? Did he know he would be broken by that time, or couldn't act that well or something? If he was perfect at it, he wouldnt have had to. I dunno. Opinions? ty

Hmmm...

Well, something to do with the eyes. Something like L being able to detect lies in eyes, so if Light knows that he is Kira, but lied that he isn't, then L would know. But if Light doesn't remember his identity as Kira, so when he insist that 'boku wa kira jyanai!' (It means 'I'm not Kira', lol, it's just that he said it so many times it kinda sticked on to me XD), L can maybe know that he isn't lying.

Or something like that... XD

Edit: Oh wait. Didn't he need another Kira while both he and Misa are imprisoned to prove two things:
1. That he isn't Kira, since he survived 13 days without killing anyone using the Death Note (remember, the investigation team led by L believed the two fake rules that Ryuk added)
2. That he needs another Kira to kill criminals while Light and Misa are imprisoned, so the investigation team knows that criminals are being killed without Light and Misa, the two suspected Kiras, doing anything
3. Since the new Kira needs a Death Note to kill, he might as well give him his, as it sort of goes with his plan I mentioned above.

Because L was really starting to catch up on him, and eventually he would have been caught. That's all i can say for now

I think he did that just so that it would be impossible to detect him, and perhaps he was afraid that something he did would give him away, so I guess he forged the plan where even he did not know he was Kira.
