I bet I can guess the restaurant you went to, is it the one inside the plaza across from the old folks home on Kennedy and some other street I forget. Anyways what you should have gotten your dad would have been dried shark fins or mushrooms (Chinese parents love that kind of stuff: assuming your Chinese). Anyways congratulations and hope it works out for the best and I can understand how parents can hate interracial relationships (my parents) so try explaining to your parents that where in modern times now and that it’s more normal then abnormal. They will warm up to the fact eventually….

Aww, poor Allen...things will get better. Don't show him that you're nervous, though. Whenever I go to a girls house, regardless if we're dating, or just friends, I am always the one to intiate shaking hands and meeting her parents. I always shake their hands when I leave as well. If were not doing anything, I'll even sit down and have a conversation with her parents.

If they see you not being timid, they will respect you for your confidence and think of you as a very polite person. ((I love how I'm telling you this and I'm 17, while you're 21...))

You are definitely right, but this situation is a little trickier than anything youve dealt with. There are some personal things that I dont really want to get into but the main thing is the immense cultural difference. And while his English wasnt terrible, he had a really thick accent which made it tough for me to understand what he was saying. And Im not really that outgoing of a guy in the first place, so these circumstances didnt help. Its gonna take time for this to work out with her dad, I wasnt going to be able to win him over the first day with some smooth talking. I tried my best though, so I guess we'll just have to see how it goes.

Glad to see Apple got on well with your dad in the end, that's probably the hardest thing, meeting the parents, they're normally really protective, well with daughter's at least. Now that your past that stage, hopefully you're be less nervous around the rest of the families.

Oh okay, I guess things would be a lot harder...cultural difference, the fact that you met online, etc. I guess if anything I should be congratulating you. Obviously he respects you enough and respects JENNY enough that he sit you down and talked to you. If a father can be honest with his daughters boyfriend then that's the best thing that can happen. Any father is going to be protective of his daughter...in this case, I don't know if Jenny is an only child...but nonetheless, I'm sure you'll be the same way with your children someday.

Anyway, things will work out. I'm confident in your...confidence...about the situation, and I'm confident that Jenny will help you through. She really cares about you, Allen, and I know that nothing will stop her...or you for that matter.
