Skill-Insulting
Insulting is a skill used to insult other players and npc's. When you are Flirting (see Flirting), and fail, you have a chance of getting Insulting Exp.
To Get Started: Talk to the Duke of Lumbridge, and say. "Are you the guy selling Lemon Grass?" (See Grasspicking)
The Duke will be insulted, and you will gain enough experience to advance to Level 2 Insulting. Now you must do the Quest, Lumbridge Insult.
Lumbridge Insult
To Start: Talk to any man or woman in Lumbridge and attempt to insult them.
Requirements: Level 2 Insulting, And eventually, Completion of the Restless Ghost quest.
Items Needed: Bucket of Compost, Normal or Super.
Members: Yes
Method: 1. Talk to any man or woman in Lumbridge and click the option 'Attempt Insult'. You will fail horribly, and the man/woman will laugh at you. They will tell you to go jump off a bridge, and do the world a favor.
2. Go to the bridge, and select 'Jump off'. Your character will go to jump off the bridge, when the Lumbridge Guide will stop you. He will ask you why you are jumping.
3. You will say 'Because I can't insult people...' He will laugh. "Of course you can't. I could tell by your face!" You will say "That was uncalled for..." He will laugh again. The Guide will tell you he will teach you to insult. He says to come back with a bucket of compost.
4. Get a bucket of compost, either from a farming store, another player, or a compost bin if you had left stuff in it earlier. Return to the guide. "You smell worse than a horse. And horse's are pretty bad." You will say: "There are horses in Runescape!?!!?!?" He will say "What makes you say that?.... idiot" And you will say "Well... how else would you know what they smell like... Oh, you just insulted me!"
5. The Guide will turn, showing you his 99 Insulting Cape. Then he will tell you to insult the Gravekeeper, John Ray, with a stink joke.
6. Go to the Lumbridge Graveyard, and find John Ray. Right-click him, and choose 'Insult'. Now click 'Stink Insult'. If you have not completed 'The Restless Ghost', the ghost will come out shouting 'Woo! Woo! Woo!', and scare your character out of the Graveyard. If you have your Amulet of Ghostspeak, you can hear what he is saying, which is "Help me!!!"
7. If you have completed it, once you choose 'Stink Insult', your character will make a random comment about John's stink. If you don't have compost on you, John will not fall to your insult. If you do, there is a chance you will suceed. If you have supercompost, your chances will be better.
8. If you suceed, John will break into tears and run into Lumbridge Swamp. Return to the Lumbridge Guide. Tell him you have completed your assignment. He will say "Eh, anyone could do it. That level three could do it! And alot faster and more efficent than you!" Your character will do the Sad emote. He will laugh. "Just joking! You did great! You are on the road to mastering insulting!"
Congradulations! Quest Complete!
Reward: 1 QP, Level 3 Insulting.
Now that you have Level 3 Insulting, you can start insulting for real! But first, some basics.
Types of Insults
Appearence Insult- To Insult someone's appearence, all you need to do is right-click your target, select 'Insult'. Next, choose Appearence Insult. Now, your character will make a 'ugly' crack. If you fail, they may hit, slap, or kick you. The damages vary. To increase your chances, you must obtain a 'face mirror'. To get a face mirror, go to any clothes store and purchace a mirror. Now, use any type of crayon (see Studying) on the mirror, to obtain a face mirror.
Once you have a face mirror, while Appearence Insulting, your character will show them the mirror, making it so that they think they are ugly (due to the face on the mirror), and take the insult worse. Therefore, chances of sucess are greater.
Stink Insult- You performed a Stink Insult in Lumbridge Insult. As you know, after right-clicking and choosing Insult, now choose Stink Insult. Your character will make a random crack about the target's stink. As you also know, your chances of success increase if you have compost or supercompost. Also, if you have swamp tar, your chances also increase. Swamp tar increases chances less than compost does, and supercompost increases chances more than compost.
Intelligence Insult- After choosing Insult, choose Intelligence Insult. Your character will make a random crack about your targets Intelligence. The higher your magic attack bonus stat, (stat, not level), the more likely you are to succeed.
Other Basics
After each level, your chances of succeeding at each insult increase. Also, once you get to higher levels, you may want to consider bringing food to heal from failure. You now know most of the basics of Insulting.
Insultees
Level Required-Insults Aquired-XP gained-Damage Recieved on Failure-Level Which You can Insult with no chance of Failure
Sheep
Level 3-Stink, Appearence, and Intelligence Insult-5xp-1-2 hp-Level 27
Sheep are easy to insult... seeing as they can't really respond to it, you suceed most of the time. Of course, there is an odd chance a ram will attack you for insulting it or other sheep.
Goblins
Level 4-Stink Insult-10xp-1-2 hp-Level 30
Level 6-Appearence Insult-12xp-1-2 hp-Level 32
Level 7-Intelligence Insult-15xp-1-2 hp-Level 33
Goblins are also easy to insult, seeing as they smell, are ugly, and stupid. Their responce to realizing they have been insulted is about as strong as a sheep.
Men and Women
Level 7-Stink Insult-15.5xp-1-3 hp-Level 38
Level 9-Appearence Insult-18xp-1-3 hp (2-4 hp for women)-Level 40
Level 11-Intelligence Insult-20xp-1-3 hp-Level 42
Once you reach Men and Women, your Insulting days get harder. They will not fall for the insults as easily as Goblins and Sheep. While Appearence Insulting, Women can take it harder and do more damage to you.
General Store Shopkeepers/Shop Assistants
Level 13-Stink Insult-24xp-2-4 hp-Level 45
Level 16-Appearence Insult-26xp-2-4 hp-Level 48
Level 19-Intelligence Insult-30xp-2-4 hp-Level 51
Now you can take your insulting skills to the General Stores. On failure, the shopkeeper/assistant will hit you with a various item from the store (pot, shears, chisel, hammer, ect.), which will appear on the floor, and you can grab it if you wish.
Guards/Al Kharid Guards
Level 18-Stink Insult-35xp-4-5 hp-Level 55
Level 21-Appearence Insult-37xp-4-5 hp-Level 58
Level 26-Intelligence Insult-60xp-6-7 hp-Never
Although you can do Guard's Stink Insult before Shopkeeper Intelligence Insult, and the experience gained is more, the price to pay is the lower sucess rate and more damage done. Beware Intellegence Insults when insulting guards. Although it does a whopping 60xp, the guard can hit 6 to 7 hitpoints off of you (by tripping you and jabbing you with their weapon, to show just how smart they are), and you can never insult with no failure. High magic stat bonus is greatly recommended for Guard Intelligence Insults, as is food.
Dwarves
Level 35-Stink Insult-50xp-5 hp-Level 65
Level 41-Appearence Insult-70xp-10 hp-Never
Level 43-Intelligence Insult-65xp-5 hp-Level 73
Dwarves Stink Insult gives less exp than a Guard's Intelligence Insult, but this is because the Dwarves can only hit a guarenteed 5, and can be done with no failure at Level 65. Beware Appearence Insulting Dwarfs. They will shout "How dare ye insult the dwarves!" and hit you for a guarenteed 10, if you fail. Even worse, you can never do this with no failure. The only upside is the 70xp gained. We recomend training on Dwarf Stink Insults till 43.
Hobgoblins
Level 40-Stink Insult-55xp-15 hp-Level 80
Level 45-Appearence Insult-70xp-15 hp-Level 85
Level 50-Intelligence Insult-100xp-15 hp-Level 90
Hobgoblins are good for exp, and have a signifigently lower chance of failure, but beware failure. It will cost you 15 hitpoints always. Food and chance increasers are recommeneded.
Ice/Jungle Creatures
Level 47-Stink Insult-75xp-1-10 hp (varies per creature)-Level 93
Level 52-Appearence-100xp-1-10 hp (varies per creature)-Level 95
Level 55-Intelligence Insult-120xp-1-10 hp (varies per creature)-Level 97
Jungle and Ice creatures are next. They include Tribesmen, Brodoo Victims, Jogres, Jungle Spiders, Ice Warriors, Ice Giants, White Wolfs, Ice Spiders. There are more, but it is up to you to figure them out.

Level 58-Appearence Insult-Players Total Level, Dropping the last digit-Depends on Players Strength Level-Never

Level 97-Intelligence Insult-Players Total Level Multiplied by Three, dropping the last digit-Players Strength Level, Multiplied by Three, and the last digit dropped-Never
Insulting other players is fun, but the chances of sucess are rather low for each combat level higher. The Damages vary, as do the experiences. On sucess, the other player has the option to say 'That was uncalled for' and do the Sad Emote, say 'I hate you', and do the Sad Emote, or type their own message, do the sad emote, do the headbang emote, and do the sad emote again.
On failure, the other player can trip you and hit you with their weapon (if they have one, otherwise they will just stomp on you), punch/slap you in the face, kick you in the groin (if you are a boy), or tear out your hair (if you are a girl). If they kick you in the groin, you will be hurt so bad your hair will fall out. If they kick you in the groin or tear your hair out, they will do 5 more damage than they usually will, though they then have a chance of failure. A succesful kick/hair tear, will cost the insulter a trip to the barbers!
P-Mods/High Scores
Level 98-Stink, Appearence, Intelligence Insult-Players Total Level Multiplied by Four, Dropping the last Digit-Player's Strength Level Multiplied by Four, Dropping the Last Digit-Never
At Level 98, you can insult Player Mods and people who are on the top one hundred in the highscores for any skill. Beware the Max 39 you can recieve on failure. The options for the other players stay the same, except for that P-Mods can mute you for five minutes instead of doing damage when you fail. While you are muted, not only can you not talk, you can not insult.
Jagex Staff
Level 99-Stink, Appearence, Intelligence Insult-J-Mods Total Level Multiplied by Five, Dropping the last Digit-J-Mod's Strength Level Multiplied by Five, Dropping the Last Digit-Never
At the mighty level 99, you can insult Jagex Staff! Beware that they can also do the mute for five minutes, as well as ban you for half an hour. Also beware the 49 that they can do if their strength is 99, which could be a 54 if they kick you in the groin/rip out your hair. This could be fatal to people with low hitpoint levels.
That concludes Insulting! Now go forth, and see if you can insult a Jagex Staff member! (without getting temp-banned
