brilliant data... if i ever decide to do barrows this will be helpful.
if, no, when you you do your next set of runs you could use the bank in Burgh De Rott, even replenish food from there. it would be much quicker than taking the boat and cave to canifis, and cheaper than buying food back from general store in mort'ton.

It's still quicker to buy back food and pots at mort'ton. The onlyproblem is you have to recharge prayer at the nature altar or drink some pots. If Jagex put an altar in Burgh De Rott I would worship them! (well i would if their game didn't lag and cause me to lose mils in a few secs  )

GazLloyd, your idea cerinally has merit, although normally when I go, I take enough pots and food for 75 runs minimum, the only time I telly is when I get a Barrows drop, and only a good one then. If I get any Karils items or any other drop that's street value is less than 500k, I just keep it in inventory until I get a good one.

However, it is a long walk back from the bank in Port Physmatys, so the bank in Burgh De Rott will be a welcome addition, but thats just one more thing I need to do before I go back to Barrows. :( since I havn't taken the time out to do that quest yet.

It shouldn't take long to do though and I am ahead of the schedule I had set. As of this morning I am less than 100k till slayer 85. If things go smooth at home this week and I get time to play, I might make 85 by Sunday. :)

[hr]

ikill2live. what you said!! :D

The Alter at the Druid Hideaway in the swamp wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to navigate that spiral path. I don't know why but that path just irritates the crap out of me. I'd love to see another temple down there but I don't think it's gonna happen.

[hr]

walkers76, thanks for the kudos, and your right, while there is some 'luck' to the Barrows it is all about understanding the randoms. It is not really difficult as long as you pay attention. I think what gets a lot of people is that they are risking a lot to try to win a lot. It would be like playing BlackJack where you risk $1,000,000 every hand to try to win that 'Big Score'.

On most hands when you win, you'll get $25,000. Now why would people want to risk $1,000,000 to only win $25,000? You could lose your $1,000,000 in the blink of an eye. One miss-click of the mouse, or 10 seconds of lag at the wrong time, and WHAM, hands over. Thanks for playing! Want to play again?

But, when you throw in the quallifier that, on some hands, you might win $500,000 or $2,000,000 or maybe even $6,000,000 instead of $25,000. Thats why we go, and why we go back, and why we keep going back, it's for the big hands.

But if you risk your $1,000,000 40 or 50 times and only get the little wins, I imagine it wouldn't be much fun anymore. So I understand when people stop, they don't like the 'not winning the big hand' part of the game, while risking (in thier mind) everything.

So if you never win, why go back? Unless you KNOW that your going to win a big pot. Thats what keeps me going, I know that i'll win. The odds are not like D-Chain or even D-Legs, they are much, much better. They are so much better, it can't even be considered the same game. So I go and collect my winnings, not every hand but I win often enough that I wouldn't even consider a run of 100 with no drops as a deterant.

As for how much money I have made? I used to keep track of what I sold my drops for, those that I did sell, but I stopped tracking when I saw how much the market was changing. I couldn't see the point of tracking sales of the same item that might change by 30-40% in a few weeks, it sorta seemed pointless.

Also, remember I am building complete sets for myself so I hav't sold it all off. Well every set but Karils anyway, I sold all the Karils off this past weekend, I dont think it's worth the repair money and I was never gonna use it. I think I got about 1.5 mil for 6 different Karil items, then 3 mil for the 10,000 bolt racks, so $4.5 mil for that stuff, so there is some sell data for you anyway. :) If I had to guess, I would think it's over 15 Mil. Of course, I turn around and spend it as fast as I get it. Broad arrows, anti-fire pots and repairing Barrow armour adds up over time. And then of course are the seeds, I buy all the high herb seeds and tree seeds I can get, so no, I am not what you would consider rich.

If the Gods of Runescape smile kindly upon me, I hope to be back in the Barrows before May 1st starting another series of runs. As of right now, it will be 400 runs. And while I know I will get some drops, with LUCK, they will be the right drops, and I can finish my Guthans and Dharoks sets.

Okay, slayer 85 is done and I got a whip drop after about 30 Abyssal Demons so that parts out of the way. I followed that up with In Aid of the Myreque so that's done as well. I have about 150 snaps in the bank and about 120 seeds. I want to make about 600 Super Restore Pots and then fish and cook 1000 sharks and i'll be headed back to the Barrows for the next series of runs.

Anybody have any specific requests of the type of data they want to see?

I am planning on doing 100 runs with 18 kills, then 100 with 21 kills and 100 with 24 kills just to see what the differance in the higher kill counts are. I plan on wearing the ROW for all of these. In addition, I was requested to take another look at the 6 kill runs to see if the results varried from the first set. Since I am intrigued by that as well that may be the first set of the next 400 I do.

After that I want to do 100 runs at 14 kills with ROW, 100 @ 14 without followed by the same set again. 100 @14 with ROW and 100 @14 without. That will give me 2 sets of 100 runs each way. Problem is, because of the Random nature of the drops, I am not sure 200 runs of each is a big enough sample. :(

I probably need some input from some statistical types on this. Help me out guys, what is a large enough sample datapool to make an objective decision from concerning Brother drops?

Is it 200? 400? 1000? Obviously the larger the datapool the better the data, but at some point the correction factor becomes to small to infuence the final number.

Any input would be appreciated.

Well 200 should be OK for rough results, which is all anyone's looking for. If you want more specific 40 will be plenty. Hope it doesnt take you too long and good luck with the drops.

This is the part you give me your luck so I can get an item finally

That's a great bit of analysis, thanks. Makes me want to go do barrows.

As for guthan's I think i've only done maybe ~60 runs and have had 3 helmets and 1 plate!

LOL, this underscores the entire 'Random' point. You've done 60 runs and got 4 Guthan items, I have done 600 runs and got 3 Guthan items, all the same.

However our drop rate is fairly close to the same in the 1 in 15 neighborhood, it's just the drops that are different.

Congrats on your drops. :D

This is a very informative study and should be stickied. It is not a guide however it contains a lot of useful/intresting information and it should not be lost, therefore I believe it deserves a sticky. When/If I go back to rs, I will want to use this information and I wouldn't like to found out it has been lost.

I love your guide and its really good. I was wondering if you could tell me or show me your inventory that you take? Right now I wear verac, and I take black dragon hide body and crystal bow to range ahrim. But the rest I just melee with my vearc. I'm wondering if this is the best? or if I should use another borrow aromr. I'm 99 combat, 80 att, str, def, 57 prayer, 75 range and 76 mage. THanks so much!

Congratz on 85 slayer, and your first whip :D

You have really gotton me wanting to go back and try it out myself. I have only been about 8 times, then I died on Dharok, so Im not suprised I havent got any good items.

If its no secret I have the same question as Lord Killer, what do you wear and whats in invent please? Do you drink a pray/super restore pot when you go into the tunnels and hope it doesnt drain away before you find the 6th brother?

Your posts are very informative, and this topic should be stickied because of that. Even if it isnt a guide, there are worse stickies than this

Kind words guys and I appreciate them very much. To track the data that I do is a slow and maticulous process which slows down the runs themselves because I have to record all the usables before each run (or at the end of each run depending on your point of view) and then before I open the chest. LOL, I dont know how many guys have thought I was standing thier waiting for them to die from fighting the brother, when in actuallity, I am just updating my records of what I have used that run prior to opening the chest. I have been called the worst names in the book. :) Like I said, it slows down each run.

That of course feeds into beasty jon's request that I try to compile more data and try to get a better idea, or at least a larger sample base of creature deaths and chest rewards. I will do some more of those, but not in the next 400 because I want the true randomness to be in effect while i test the higher kill counts and drops.

As you can imagine, trying to kill one particular monster is a slow process because your being attacked by what ever is closest to you. While I was gathering data on the first time around, it was not uncommon for me to leave a room and wait outside the door for the creature I wanted to kill to come wandering close and hope I could get my attack in before the door spawn creature attacked me, or, I would open and close the door multiple times waiting for the right creature to spawn. Needless to say, rooms get full in a hurry that way :)

I would like to do some runs and kill 6 of each particulat creature in the Barrow Tunnels, but then the question is, how many runs on each creature type do you have to do to get the needed data to make a valued decision from?

I'll post a couple of screenies when I get home tonight so you guys can see what I wear and what I carry and I'll also say why I use what I do.

GRRRRRRR. !!!!

LOL, Seriously, great for you! It's good to hear that other people can get these (for me anyway) elusive drops.!!

Sorry about not getting my pics up, I have had to work over and in early the past couple of days and have not had time. I am getting off work early today (in about 4 hours) and I plan on posting them up when I get home. I already have the screenies, I just need to crop and link.

Well I dont need the pics now, but thanks anyway.

I decided to brave it and bought some ahrims and 600 super restores (I WILL get a barrows item!!!) for my venturing. So far ive done about 20 runs and nothing yet, though barrows is really fun, and even if you dont get a brothers drop ever, then on average the chest gives more stiff than it costs to buy the super restores in the first place.

If I dont get an item in another 20 runs then I will hunt down everyone who says they got a drop on their first trip and bat them with a slayers staff.

One question - Karil seems to annoy me more than any other brother. Ive seen people maging him, I did melee him but I started ranging him (83 range) and he goes down pretty well. What do you do?

edit: two questions, do you take the crumbliing tomb with you? Heard it increases drop rate but thats rumour, and I dont see why jagex would make it like that. Maybe you could do a set of 100 to do with that?

edit edit: WOOT MY FIRST BIT OF LUCK.Got a rune large, kite, 800 mind, ammy of glory, 100 odd death and a slayer staff from some one who thought their ghost robes would stand up to Karil.

edit edit edit: 3600th post

I'll still post the pics later today. And yes, I would certinally agree with you about the chest loot, even without the brother drops, the loot will more than pay for your Barrow runs.

To answer your questions.

1). I mage Karil, he goes down pretty quick to it. Actually I mage everybody buy Ahrim who I range.

2) no and i have never heard that about the crumbling tomb, I have heard that about the book of balance which I used on most of the 600 runs I made.

Nice bit of luck on the player find, thats one of those 'added' bonuses of doing the Barrows a lot, you get goodies like that from time to time.
