I don't plan to give up on the community. The popular opinion here is that we cut away all the dead/unnecessary bits, downsize, cut costs down to a minimum or possibly even free, but still keep RV around as a place for people to stay connected, reconnect, and communicate. This, I believe, is a good and realistic idea.

I also don't plan to step aside, certainly not for the sake of the delusional notion that a regime change is what we need to suddenly bounce back out of the grave we've found ourselves in.

Most vocal opinion != most popular. I still think a downsize will do more harm than good. Also, nice to see there was warning, an announcement, etc before you did the downsize Jack. And that "Downsizing" topic hardly counts...

Maybe a regime change isn't needed, but IMHO there should be more "active" mods and admins, and IMHO the admin team should have equal share of powers and responsibilities. Also, claiming a regime change is "delusional" is the first step to a(n already existing) dictatorship... Either way, it would be nice to have some forward-thinking staff, not just staff whosee every suggestion as pointless, whilst not suggesting anything themselves. It's easy to say "that's Fuzzy Bunny", but unless you've got a better idea, keep it to yourself.

I guess it's worn off of the other pessimistic little Fuzzy Bunny in this topic.

Like who? You're the one who started the big spiel about calling the posts depressing and arguing with Apple and Henry afterwards. You've had to filter out a lot of bullshit from the whining and asshattery you've pulled around the middle of the topic. With absolutely no active effort on your part to contribute to the best of my memory, you have the brass balls to call out the leadership for something that isn't even fully their fault, and you still continue to try to get cutthroat with the one guy who's managed to have a steadfast love of the site enough to never leave it and return to try to keeping it alive and stable. Even after you agree with the method in the first place!

Nobody else in this topic comes anywhere close to the amount of stupidity and negativity you've spewed, barring lovefoto. But he's a troll, whereas you're just a dick. So no, your bullshit isn't caused by others. Others' is caused by you. The closest anyone else has come to it on this topic was the Demon and Jackstick display, but that's a genuine buildup of two different approaches clashing on an application process. That at least has some justification. Where's yours? I'll wait.

You actually have no idea how things are run behind the scenes, stop trying to post like you do.

For someone as against the changes that have currently taken place, you certainly have kept an unusual silence on your own ideas for keeping the site afloat.I am actually blind and forgot that there are other topics on this website other than this one.

  • Someone starts a global over the status of the forums
  • People talk about how it's a shame
  • A decision is made that doesn't really change anything
  • Pointless arguments ensue
  • Global dies down and everyone goes back to being inactive

We do this every Fuzzy Bunny year.

It's the lack of hope that i was having a go at, not anyone in particular. Many people in this thread have just suggested to shut the site down and turn it into a small dead corner of the internet that everyone has forgotten. I believe the Village deserves more than that.

First of all, I don't believe I have ever "called out" any leaders anywhere. I was just commenting on a something I observed years ago. Take it as bullshit if you like, it probably is. I have no gripes with the current administration in all fairness, after all, the Village is alive enough for these arguements to ensue and i'm sure if there wasn't an administration who actually gave a damn, i wouldn't be arguing with you now

As for the second point... If you want me to be honest, as of course you want me to be... i think it's a massive mistake. Killing off all those forums and merging them is a massive step backwards IMHO. I just didn't want to seem like a complete asshat by calling Jackstick out for performing the change with no real warning. (No "I"m going to merge so-and-so forums on so-and-so night etc). It's just the lack of, well, professionalism, that got me. There, i've been honest, flame me for it.

Sure, i'll admit i'm an idiot, and there's a Fuzzy Bunny good reason i turned down that Staff Elder title 4 years ago. Because i'm unreliable, forget Fuzzy Bunny, Am an opinionated Fuzzy Bunny who doesn't often care about others opinions, and genuinely lose interest and passion for things. The Village being one of those thing I did indeed lose passion for. Curse and go at me, but I never forgot the village. I may have never posted much in the last year, or even in the last 2 years, but after Hikers revelations, who did? I lost the enthusiasm, I lost the will to be active, as many others did. The point is, I'm here now, i've created a topic asking for opinions on new ideas and directions, as well as suggesting my own.

The Village of 2003-2008 deserved more than that. The Village of 2014 does not.

Everyone that stayed? :-s Look around, there are a lot of us.

Being the leader means making the tough decisions. Keeping the Village alive for the past two years has cost well over $1,200. We all love the Village; you are not the only one here that does. But where you call it a "lack of hope", I call it "spending over a thousand dollars to we can continue to talk to each other for the next two years is an unfair way to spend the generously donated money of others". I think Jackstick's opening post of this topic says that a majority of the money we got to run RV through 2013 came from a single person. I'm pretty sure that's not going to keep happening--nor should it.

Your opinion != most popular either. Reading through this thread, the most popular opinion is exactly what you claim it isn't.

That's probably being generous though, letting RV die seems pretty popular too.

There is nothing to moderate, and barely anything to administrate. Surely that's the last thing we need.

The RV forums are completely dead. There is the tiniest bubble of activity floating around due to this Global. The illusion of the bubble's size is due to the forum merging. There was absolutely no point in continuing to have as many forums as we did given our activity.

Quoting for emphasis. This is exactly why Runevillage needs to be downsized. It is incredibly selfish (if you aren't paying the $$$) to expect Runevillage to continue running like it is now just for nostalgia sake.

Considering it got an overwhelmingly agreeable response in 24 hours, I didn't feel a major announcement was needed. A downsizing was going to happen one way or another. You are severely overestimating our activity levels, and I think that has a lot to do with the fact that you've been mostly absent for several months until now.

Also you yourself ended up being pretty happy to the change immediately after it happened, so what's with the sudden change of heart?

The123king wrote:

Active for what? Do you not realize that there is literally nothing left to do? The Chat Mod team have nothing to moderate because chat is always dead, and there hasn't been a forum punishment in two years (not counting ban evaders, bots, or spammers) - and not because our mod team is inactive, but because there's just so little going on these days.

So do I. I've invested hundreds of hours of work into this site for that very belief, and I've seen plenty of others do the same or more. But at a certain point, holding on to that hope for so long shifts from an admirable loyalty, to a delusion. I know what I'm talking about, King, show me a little bit of respect. When it's both Jackstick and Glodenox saying that a rebound is not in the cards, then you ask yourself if you really know what you're talking about when you fuel such fantastic beliefs.

You've been doing that in this topic. You're criticizing me and my staff for things which you don't understand, with comments like this:

"Either way, it would be nice to have some forward-thinking staff, not just staff whosee every suggestion as pointless, whilst not suggesting anything themselves."

The123king wrote:

And this is exactly why I'm not going to back any of the people coming out of the woodwork promising that they're ready to jumpstart the Village towards a glorious resurgence. I've seen this false passion SO MANY TIMES it makes me sick. I won't invest a minute of my time in any more of these fantasies.

Neither should you, King. Just go look at the response you've gotten in your "new direction" topic. Where are all those eager workers, creative thinkers, talented artists and programmers that you need for any sort of resurgence to be possible? I'll tell you - they've either left, or they don't have the time or desire to work for RV anymore. It's a sad reality, and it tears me up inside to know that this is what we've come to, but this is what we've come to.

The real point that I think (could have missed it) everyone is glossing over is this: What's the point of RV anymore? What's keeping people here, and what's going to bring new people in?

If you want to keep it open solely for the sake of "community", I repeat, just put it out of it's misery.

I know im pretty new to the site, and don't know how much of a say I should have on this but someone could make a group on steam for RV. I don't know if you have one or not, however with an active group on steam possibly providing help on games or conducting a few activity's you might be able to draw in new people on the site. (Just an idea.) ^_^;

We had two steam groups, if I recall. One for our TF2 team and another official one for the site. While looking at it, the group has 400 current members which could either be a very good thing, or be a bad thing if we want to follow through with this whole "starting anew" thing.

Seriously, Steam is huge. Our group has 400 members, and I have no Fuzzy Bunny clue why or has that is. If we want an activity increase, that's the chance to do it, right there.

I can't guarantee how many regular Villagers use steam regularly other than me, but most of the people in that group are randoms. some people just join groups for the sake of joining groups. I looked at the member list and it seems like at least half of those people are fairly active on Steam. Some haven't logged in for weeks, some haven't logged in under 24 hours, etc. It's worth a shot to use it to promote things, at the very least.

Oh man Jan, you just got zinged by Riptide. How much does THAT suck?

Well, statistically speaking, slightly more than a giant suckusaur. A dire one.

I know im pretty new to the site, and don't know how much of a say I should have on this but someone could make a group on steam for RV. I don't know if you have one or not, however with an active group on steam possibly providing help on games or conducting a few activity's you might be able to draw in new people on the site. (Just an idea.) ^_^;

We had two steam groups, if I recall. One for our TF2 team and another official one for the site. While looking at it, the group has 400 current members which could either be a very good thing, or be a bad thing if we want to follow through with this whole "starting anew" thing.

In the event that RV is laid to rest, been nice spending time here, especially with the ol' RVA gang.

*hugs*
