I am planning on joining the Military ( Army ) excited, pumped, and scared shitless about what will happen in boot camp lol. I haven't signed papers yet because they need to look over my medical records, and schedule me for a physical, but I know this is what I want to do, but I don't know if I can last through BCT haha :/

Any advice for BCT, AIT, war, or after the contract is over?

BCT sucks but you get through it.

I'm by no means a great physical specimen but I graduated by some magic. If you're in pretty good shape and really want to get through it, you can. It's a lot of mind over matter. You'll think at first you can't do it, but over time you'll overcome a lot of stuff that seems hard.

If it's what you really want to do, then go for it. It can be a good way to move up and get your education and a steady job. If you find a good MOS (job) you want to do then it can be pretty good too and they can get you some training that gives you good experience for later on.

I don't know what you're doing far as AIT goes or your MOS. I'm in ordnance (mechanics and such) and planning on going officer eventually whenever I get the heck out of here.

Keep in mind also, it gets better as you go. BCT teaches you.. the basics.. AIT teaches you your job.. then the real Army is better than both. As you go, you regain more freedom and responsibility.

It'll be hard and you may feel terrible, get sick, injured etc, everyone does with the exception of a few weird people. The best thing I can say is keep motivated. the training phases suck, but it passes.

I have some good friends from basic too. It's that whole comradery through suffering kinda thing. Basic wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be, but it certainly wasn't easy either.

The job right now that is a high possibility is 31B which is Military Police and BCT and AIT will be at the same location for 20 weeks for all my training.


That is a big motivation of mine. I'm not that much out of shape, but that "and then some" is a plus ~.^

My guess was that his parents wouldn't let him go.
But that guess mainly came from my dad not letting me join the army. Something about not wanting his kid shot at etc etc.

Once you're of age your parents can't really "stop" you from doing anything, but I guess they can certainly coerce you.

When I told my mom I might want to join the military, she warned me that there was some old grandfather clause where a parent can keep their only son from joining the military. I thought it was nonsense, and if true, maybe only in the case of the draft.

I thought it was maybe that he wasn't medically cleared. I had assumed he had already talked to his parents about it.

It's not that they wouldn't "let" me. At first they tried to talk to me out of it and I hurt my mom's feelings. It took me a while, but I figured out I couldn't do it to her. We last my grandma last year and me leaving for the army was like a chance that she could lose me the year after or even within the next 4 years. Being truthfully honest I cried. I couldn't imagine doing that to her. Having her lose her mom and eldest child within a few years of each other. There of course is the chance of my well not dying lol but there's the chance. I just felt bad. Couldn't go through with it after all. Gonna try to get a job with TDCJ.

I know how it's tough when it comes to parents and those thoughts. Many of us probably went through that. I did in 2011 after the end of my 2nd year at community college.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

It'll be a Correctional Officer position.

For myself, it was about the Navy. Also took the ASVAB and was close to joining.

Since the last post, i've taken Criminal Justice classes and finished college. Some college definitely helps with being promoted faster like in the military.
