One other question i want to ask is does having a minor really give you much? I was thinking of having a economics minor with social and behavioral sciences as a major. I do have some interest and think it's a better minor than another social science.

All a minor is going to give you is a little modifier. They generally don't require much, maybe 3-4 classes. An economics minor I think wouldn't be worth much, as you would only be scratching the surface of a very complicated field. A writing minor, however, is a bit different.

I kind of thought so. But a minor in that would be 21-24 units actually, but i think it's better than to just have random electives

Yeah you're right. I think mine was 20 credits, which was 5 classes, 2 of which had to bee 300 level or above.

You're theoretically going to have to take some random electives anyway just to fill your credit requirement or to do your general studies.

I can say that an English or writing minor is always a great choice, as everyone needs to know how to read and write effectively. Especially in the social sciences, where you will be writing reports often and/or grants, etc. Choose something that will compliment your major.

For example, my girlfriend has a BS in criminal justice, and decided to minor in English. It made her a stronger writer and communicator, and put her head and shoulders above her meathead, police academy peers who struggled to regurgitate a case summary straight from a textbook.

Economics professors out here tell you to only minor in economics, or double major in economics and math. It's a complex field that's mostly math, so that's what they encourage you to learn as an undergraduate. The economics part is easy, so they want you to learn that in graduate school if you really give a crap.

My Computer Science degree automatically came with a Mathematics minor if you took the right courses. To me it was nothing more than a nice little line on my resume.

Also, you mentioned a social/behavioral sciences degree. What do you plan on doing with it? As a psych major, I never really needed the english class I eventually took; the writing style we use is drilled into you pretty hard, it's the only writing style you read, and going out of your way for an english minor is kind of overkill if you're just going into counseling or research. If you WANT to be a writer of some sort, then by all means take the courses. It's just that depending on what you want to do you might be better off with something else. Economics is starting to blend with the other social sciences a little better these days in terms of research, so you might be right to go with that.

Technical writing is a different story, though. I regret never taking that class.

I'm currently majoring in Anthropology, because Psychology is impacted at a lot of Universities that i'm near, including the one i got into and accepted. I might be able to change to change to Psych, since i have a lot of classes done for lower division. I don't really know what plans i have. I see that research is needed and for those with Psych, Anthro, or Sociology are needed for social research. At least that's what i seen online. I should meet with a career advisor.

You've probably got a bit of time to find out what you want to do. As far as anthro I've done a lower division bio-anthro/physical class and an archaeology field school, and still have a lot of friends in the major, but I don't know a whole lot about it. I do know that most of my friends who graduated got various jobs with the state doing data organization, tribal relations, or "forest frolicking". One of them just got a job doing erosion control/tree planting. English and economics I can see working out really well, but you'll probably want to look into some statistics if job prospects in your parts are anything like the ones out here. There's way worse skills to have than statistics.

Best advice I can give is get involved in any research early, get involved in everything else you can find, and figure out what to do from there. I've changed career plans multiple times now and may have some opportunities in a few different areas just because of everyone I've met and all that I've done. Figure out what you want to minor in based on what you enjoy and then figure out how to get people to pay you to do it in conjunction with your major. That saying sounds dumb, but it actually works better than you'd think.
