I do understand, but I want to be responsible for what happens next. I refuse to be told what is needed or what I should do or should have done. People learn from mistakes and it makes them better at what their next conflict is. If people help you then you won't know how to handle yourself when no one is there to hold your hand through it. I have learned everything that's happened through experience if it fails that is on me. You learn more from trial and error than being told the right way to do something.

I'm at the beginning of my 4th year in Community college. I can transfer to a university in Anthropology, something i like, or Psychology, or change it. It's worrying reading articles about how Anthro graduates earn close to those with only high school diplomas. I'm weak in math and science, which is another reason i chose this. Is Psych better, even with a Bachelor's?

since i know very little in both anthropology and psychology, i forwarded your question onto a friend of mine who is in his 4th year of uni and going for a bachelors of psych(with honors. i was supposed to add that or get in trouble)

I would agree with this. The arts and sciences are suffering badly right now, with the best jobs going to people in business or people with technical/technological degrees.

Anthropology is almost like philosophy or liberal arts in that there are only a very minute amount of things you can do with your degree...

Unfortunately, similar to what Market's friend said, in certain fields you almost need to go to grad school to get that leg up. I have a BS in English and I'm going back for an MA because every place I would consider working wants either a master's or experience...funny thing is, I can't get relevant experience without a master's.

If I were you and considering something in psych vs something in anthropology, if you like both equally, I'd choose psych. It seems to me that you have more career options. Also consider pairing a very smart minor with your major, like a foreign language or a CIS minor. Consider double majoring/minoring.

Hmm, i think majoring in psyc and minor in Anthro sounds good. For most jobs, it seems like applied anthropology is the way to go if someone chooses to stay in the U.S. Too bad for just about any subject that people perfer at least a master's degree.

Whatever it is you decide to study, make sure you network, network, network.

I'm not talking about going to parties and getting drunk and hanging out with your friends at the movies or restaurants, clubs, etc... Yes, that's important, but make sure to expand on that a lot.

Go out and volunteer, tutor, join clubs at your school, try and land internships at different companies. In other words, get your name out there and get people who already have jobs in high places to know who you are.

It's more about who you know vs what you know these days. Connections will land you a good paying job, or at least get your foot through the door.

There are numbers you can call to report her threatening it, and she will get whisked away and looked after for making such threats against herself. I'd hope after enough times of "I don't love you, now enjoy being carried out by the cops who don't trust you to have your self-stabbing hands free until you're at the hospital" she would get the picture.

If not and she starts stalking you, that's a question I could only answer with a google search for if a restraining order or something is allowed.

Suicidal threats should always be taken seriously. If it's as bad as you make it to be, reporting it would be the right thing to do. Don't know about the other problem though.

This, to an extent. Some people are completely overdramatic and will threaten suicide just for the attention or the 'endgame'. Is it worth the risk? Never. But I have seen people in my personal life threaten to kill themselves when in fact they never had any real intention of doing so. I don't mean to be callous, but just from the information at hand this sounds like the latter. She's trying to manipulate you in the sickest way possible.

At any rate, as you're in high school (?) the best thing to do might be to tell a principal, guidance counselor, or trusted teacher and watch that stuff get sorted out. She'll either get the help she needs or she'll be forced to knock that off real quick.

As for the stomach cutting, since you said 'apparently', I'm guessing there is no proof of this behavior, which helped me to the above conclusion. Include that tidbit in the story to whomever you tell, and watch the fun ensue.

Because really, people who *pretend* to be suicidal are among the worst human beings on the earth, especially if they are functioning people otherwise (IE using a suicide threat to their own end).

I forgot about the context. Yeah, there's a difference between a patient who had therapy for such and calls the therapist to say goodbye versus someone overdramatic for the attention. Either way, still better to be safe most of the time, though i'm not sure if Arya's problem warrants the seriousness. I only know the problem vaguely from the post.

She moved away from her aunt and uncle. Who she was living with for the past 15 years? About. To live with her mom who was in prison for that time for drug abuse and apparently wants more to do with her daughter now. So she moved an hour away to get away. And I found out she did cut her stomach. She got a cell from her mom and that doesn't help my case. She's been blowing up my phone constantly.
