With the loss of their Detective, the Villagers couldn't bring themselves to lynch anyone. It looked like they had fallen back into their original habit of only lynching people fingered by PenguinGuy.

But if this was the case, things weren't going to end well for them. Were the Villagers truly going to just roll over and die?

Perhaps the next day's dawn would bring new viewpoints on the matter...

Eight Villagers awoke on the ninth day and headed to the town square. When it became apparent that Animal was not going to make it in time for them to all have a nice bowl of Crispix for breakfast, they set out looking for him. What they found spoiled their appetite for breakfast entirely.

(Except for Muffin, who was ironically eating some muffins, and Ex Rex and Tanksandguns, who were fighting over the Cinnamon Toast Crunch.)

Animal was slumped up against the outside of his house with a black dagger in his chest. It was apparent he had gone out that night and was attacked upon returning home. A quick search of his house revealed a mess of term papers and study guides--clearly, he had been training to be a doctor, but was only about halfway there. If it was he who had attempted to protect PenguinGuy the previous night, then that meant any hope the Village had of even backup medical assistance was now lost.

Animal - Medical Student - Slain Night 8

Seven Villagers, one Mafioso, and a whole lot of confusion. The Village was going downhill, and it was their job to put a stop to the decline--if they could.

Still doesn't make much sense as to why Penguin still died. Must be a 50% chance of protection or something like that.

That said, we do have 8 players left with 1 Mafia. I say we try and lynch Vandal, he hasn't posted but that doesn't mean he isn't playing. He is a inexperienced player, and inexperienced players often go after the obvious targets, of which Animal was based on his earlier comment about Penguin, and his joining the train against Vandal yesterday.

The hostility against Vandal grew in the face of his complete and utter apathy at staying alive. They were going to lead him to the gallows but he was totally zoned out, so the rest of the Villagers carried him up there instead. Even after being hung, it was hard to tell if there was any real difference in his personality.

Unfortunately, it turned out he wasn't the final Mafia member.

The Villagers gathered in the town square on the tenth day. Most of them wondered if any of the Mafia's "games" had ever gone into double-digits day-wise, but it a trivial thing to dwell on given that two-thirds of their friends were already dead, either by the Mafia's hands or by their own. The most prudent thing to do, of course, was to find out who was missing and to get underway on rooting out the final Mafia member.

...five, six....seven. Huh.

"No one's missing? We're all here?" "Sure looks like it." "And no one was even attacked during the night?" "For the second time in nine nights, apparently."

The Villagers thanked their good fortune that the Mafia hadn't killed anyone during the night, but they weren't about to let this kindness go unpunished. It was time to get down to business again.
