I can't really put it into words. I played RuneScape from 2001-2004 and 2007-2009, and I lurked RV up until about 2008.


It's hard to believe this is the same website from back then. I remember refreshing the page in any of the RuneScape forums---general, things you'd like to see in runescape, quests, the wilderness, Ways Not To Get Scammed, jokes, all of them ---and always seeing at least a few new posts. I remember the amazing drop parties and community events in RS1.

But what kills me is all the things I can't remember, no matter how hard I try. I can't remember the name of the player (an RV mod?) who got... stuck in the Water Obelisk outside Catherby? I can't remember the name of that one poster who pretended to be a noob and to love bronze armour. I can't remember the poster who collected hundreds of thousands of cabbages. I can't remember if there ever was a RuneVillage newsletter, or if I'm confusing that with a different fansite. I can't remember why RuneVillage makes me think of big noses.

All that's just gone. And it's never coming back.
