The last day did amuse me. It was like Godders and Scar had been gunning for each other since the previous game, and Scar has beaten him twice now.

Right so most things have been said. I'll just leave this here. Whatever you want to do with it is fine
What the Fuzzy Bunny, Mnok?

Yes, I screwed up. I looked online for setups that were nice and balanced and not exactly normal (and you must recall I said it wouldn't be entirely normal) and saw setups with multiple detectives. "Cool", I thought, "I like this. Maybe adding one or two more detectives would be the perfect balance of sane and insane I'm hoping for."

What I didn't know until early D2 is that this is a variant called Dethy. Why it's called that and not "there are a metric crapton of detectives be careful this is variantland" is an awesome question.

Mind revealing the distribution of detective sanities? The name "Dthy" comes from DEF for Detective of Every Flavor (generally, one sane, one paranoid, one naive, and one insane). Once the village can figure out which one is which, they can start making proper use of investigations. Random detectives are avoided in this variant because that's just annoying and really a useless role unless you have other roles that trigger off night visits. Also, why did you choose to add a dayvig role when there was only one doctor?

Detective distrib was (determine logically and then confirmed by Monk after my death):

Market Man6 - Sane
Ex Rex - Insane
Riptide - Paranoid
Godders - Random

A Random Detective is just straight-up unfair for the town. HOWEVER, a mafia with no power roles against a town with two functional detectives, a self-protecting doctor, and a one-shot dayvig, it was just the balancing factor we needed.

I may have not survived a Day Two lynch had the other three detectives not counterclaimed Godders. It was purely through the circumstances of the setup that I was able to get Lander off of my back.

I must say things went far differently than I expected. For one, I did not imagine that all four detectives would die before the end of the game. My plan of action at the time of Kikori's death was to use my fakeclaim as Doctor to stay alive and throw Detective sanity determinations out of whack, and meanwhile lynch the unclaimed players, Dr Henry and Aragorn.

Luckily, the detectives turned on eachother, allowing us to pop Tahu's potentially dangerous kill on Riptide, a move that probably signalled the shift of the game's favour towards us.

My big mistake that day was to wait on Henry's word to see if a Godders lynch was feasible. I let him have initiative, and he used it to get me lynched, a lynch I am still unsure how it happened.

Luckily Scar was able to pull through on the last day. It would have been better if you more adamantly stated the sheer contradiction in Godders investigations, but that's moot now since you won anyways. It was enough to lean Aragorn in your direction, which is all you needed.

Kikori and Scar, it was an honor playing with you tonight.

Lander and Henry, you were worthy opponents. In fact I would venture to say we never truly defeated you Henry, it was only through Scar's wise decision to kill you over Tahu that we were able to win. You never lost our scent for a second, even through all the confusion.

Thanks James, I figured that after the last game, in which I made some massive mistakes right away and Kikori hounded me from the off, that I needed to bring my A-game and even I am impressed with how I did.

My main gripe is Day 2 - we were so close to lynching Top, yet all the claiming ruined that and we ended up losing every single detective from that point onwards.

If people had only listened to me more - lynch Top Day 2 and use Tahu's one-shot on Kikori... but alas, it was not to be :(

I look forward to the next game. Scar is 2 for 2 in outplaying Godders and myself it seems (mostly Godders, but he used my death well in both games) so it is ON!

It was rather entertaining to continue to read through the game after my death.
When I read my PM I was super excited to find I was the detective. But was rather deflated when I found I was one of many. Oh well! I am looking forward to scar/henry/godders duke it out next game.
Congrats again to everyone in the mafia. You earned it

That was your biggest flaw this game. You didn't give people a reason to listen to you. You went with your gut, sure, but that's no reason for anyone to follow you. You have to assemble the evidence and make a real case, and you failed to do that.

It has been my flaw in most games - getting the evidence to be convincing enough.
