If you'd deleted more blocks below it, it might've worked. D:

Meandered around with a fortress-type construction before work.

Image Entrance view. The giant thing on the right is a two-step back door to jump into the castle... If only I could craft it with TNT that would actually explode instead. XD

Mord's accomplishment > Mine.

Godmode unlocked.

Also worth noting the 3d space invaders I whipped up in a few mins.

Glass tunnel
Image

Railroad and distance view of my newer towers
Image

The railroad barely extends near the entrance to the glass tunnel as of yet, so I imagine I'll need
in the area of 300 rail sections to complete it. I also want to set something up to where I can just keep using the same minecart instead of destroying and replacing it...

My latest progress

Image

Close up of my new "big project"

Image

The big project is going to by the "Black tower" made mostly of obsidian
a little glass for windows, and then gold on top.

I found a really good way to mine obsidian too I refer to as hydromining.

What you do is take a bucket of water with you (or more works better)
And first seal the lava pool with a layer of obsidian on top

Then get more jets of water flowing onto the lava pool area and mine the stone around it.

Gradually as you freeze more and more of it around the edge,
work under it a bit then focus the water on the blocks of obsidian you're mining.

Work on the top edge and work around,
the key point is mining only the blocks you're most certain won't fall into lava.
If you have a fall of water directly on the block you mine, in most cases the lava
won't flow out of the shell into the mined block and will instead freeze too.
So working top down on the outer edge works best.

It's something you need to practice too but once you get it figured out,
using water and mining the obsidian in-place is the most efficient compared to
bringing buckets up to a "forge" and individually freezing them...

I built a castle, standard four-story. The bottom floor has a chest, furnace, and workshop. It holds most of my tools and food. Floor two has two chests holding most of my wood from cutting, stones from mining, and respective tools. Floor three is my furnaces-for-glass floor, with chests for sand and some coal. Floor four is the top floor leading to the tower. No decorations in it yet, sadly, but it's all in place. I'm very much contemplating turning the bottom of the tower (the area below the pathway's connection to the tower) into a railroad to somewhere.

I did also modify my technique a little recently.
The hydro mining works, but i've combined it with the forge technique a bit better.

Image

Instead of lugging buckets up a stairwell to a surface forge... I've just started making a forge in the mine.

I've found what works best for is an area like 3x8 or around that size
with a checker pattern of mold holes for lava and dirt squares... then quench with a water steam
dig out the dirt with a shovel, then fil the spots where dirt used to be with lava, quench again.
Then dig out the end of the forge and mine out the obsidian one row at a time.

This way you can just go get a few buckets of lava from the pool and gradually drain it.
It still takes an insane amount of time to mine each obsidian block,... but this way you can do it
under more controlled conditions.

Image
Black Tower's construction to this point about 120 blocks of obsidian used

Also since I use about half as much glass as obsidian I started a sand quarry on the coastal base.
But I found something interesting as I dug down more, hearing the grunt of monsters as I got deeper in the daytime.
Apparently about 10 blocks deep was another monster cave. So I made a zombie farm.

Image
Complete with glass cover and door.

Night with zombies spawning

Finished the black tower since it reaches the highest I can build.
Image

Took 350 Obsidian blocks
about 350 glass blocks
6 blocks of gold for the cross on top
The staircase is mostly moss covered stone with the half-block pavers to make climbing faster.
Then to get down faster there's a glass diving board off the back.

A view from the top
Image

View from the base
Image

I got most of the obsidian with a 4x9 forge, any larger than that seems to get too tedious...
I've also found the best material to make the checker pattern with is gravel since
if you have to keep digging it out eventually you get some flint that way.

Glass tower connected on the top floor by a railroad. You -can- get into the island by climbing a waterfall from the ocean if you need to, which I sometimes do. I learned that water flowing over a railroad track will wash it away because of this tower. XD The water flowing around it is semi-transparent, so I get to look around from inside, which is as awesome as I'd wanted. :D

Heres an awesome lego creeper I made! It is so small because i was *VERY* limited in blocks (like i literally only had one green piece afterwards). Maybe next weekend ill dig around the house to find my giant box of legos with more blocks in it so I can make a 3d version.

Here it is:

and after messing around on photoshop:

Finished the outside shell of my ship, still needs internal work but it's mostly done now.
It would be neat if it actually worked, but that's likely not going to happen.
