I've been getting into electronic music lately and am trying to understand the different subsets/genres, but I have no idea where to begin or what the differences are between all of them. I work by genres when it comes to music and finding out what bands fit into what categories; some call it restrictive, but I find it opening.

I could go through and describe all the differences between the 5,000 punk/hardcore subsets, but I have no idea where to begin with electronic music. Anyone care to help enlighten me on it? I can understand ambient music, downtempo, and trip-hop (the radio station I work at plays a lot of Massive Attack and Tricky), but I'm totally lost on the rest. The Wikipedia articles only get me so far.
