Hello Runevillage,

This is dustin, (memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=11961). Yesterday my email, my facebook, and my runescape accounts were hacked into (my bank pin stopped him from getting anything). It appears as if my runevillage account has also been hacked into, probably because it shares a common password.

I am unable to reset my runevillage password as the person who hacked into my account has also changed my email. I am not sure what the procedure for something like this is usually like, but i'm sure that a quick look at my ip will verify that i am who i say i am, and a new ip accessing my dustin account will validate my story.

Also if you don't have mod powers feel free to ask questions that only the real dustin would know.

I've banned your original account (dustin) for now, just to be safe. Obviously you're not in any trouble at all, I'm just trying to avoid problems that may be caused by the person who hacked your accounts. If any chat mods are reading this post, please ban the account from the chatroom too (I'd do it myself but I can't access chat from school computers).

I did an IP check and it looks like you are indeed the real dustin, so that's good.

Unfortunately I have to catch the bus right now, but I'll be home in about an hour or so and we can work on fixing this if it hasn't already been fixed by someone else.

Any idea how they got your password?

I got an email from jagex earlier telling me my request to recover my password was unsuccessful, even though I probably haven't been to runescape.com in over a year, not sure why anyone would want my account but they probably got the name through RV, as that's the only connection to RS I have left

I have no idea how they got my password, but i am pretty sure that they did not get it from a security flaw in my computer as all the computers i use are linux based (ubuntu at home, mandriva at school), and they get an os re-install 4 or 5 times a year at the least.


Edit: also i am in the same boat as you when it comes to logging in. I haven't accessed my account in well over a year.
Edit 2: you might want to check your account to be safe

Didn't bother logging in to runescape itself as I don't really care about the items and I have a bank pin anyway
