Hey guys,

When I made this topic, I had been going on near 40 hours without sleep. I noticed today's RuneScape update right as I was getting ready to go to bed. What I stated here was meant as a "hold off on cursing within the lounge until I can set up something official", and I'm kind of surprised to see how many people got bent out of shape over that.

Regardless, now that I've had time to sit down and think things over, I've amended the RV Lounge rules to reflect our stance on profanity within the Lounge;

viewtopic.php?f=67&t=431401&p=3571412#p3571412

Quote:
Do not abuse profanity within the Lounge. While people have the option to keep their filter on, nobody wants to see excessive cursing, censored or otherwise. Excessive profanity will be treated as disruptive behavior. As with RuneScape rules, cursing is never to be directed offensively at other players within the Lounge.

As long as you're not cursing every-other sentence, you should have nothing to worry about. And for those of you who do not like profanity at all, you should keep your censor turned on.

Keep in mind that our ultimate goal is to keep RuneVillage, and by relation, RV Lounge, as a family-oriented site that is an enjoyable environment for everyone.

Thanks,

~ Goten

Hey guys,

I'm aware that today saw the release of a "profanity filter" option within RuneScape.

I would just like to remind you all that RuneVillage rules still apply within our Clan Chat. What this means is that you should not be using language that would otherwise by filtered within the RV Lounge - This includes the F-word, the S-word, and anything else that we have censored here on RuneVillage.

I'll be considering a more "official" stance on this soon and will update you guys as soon as I can, once I have some time to think things over and discuss things with the rest of the management here at RuneVillage. But for now;

Don't say anything within RV Lounge that would be censored here on RuneVillage.

Thanks,

~ Goten

I'm not a fan of what you've said. For a start, it says quite clearly in the update:

"If you find swearing offensive, please do leave the profanity filter on."

Everyone that has turned off the filter is obviously going to be fine with seeing some swearwords. Everyone else still has it on, and will see ****.

I can understand stuff like "Shut the Fuzzy Bunny up" being inappropriate, even with the filter on, because it's very obvious what people are saying and is an insult, or if they are constantly using several swearwords in a row. However, if you are going to punish people for including a swearword in their sentence every now and then when it's not a direct insult, then I think you are very wrong indeed.

If it was filtered on RV, it would be filtered on RS for people that have left the filter on. There is no issue at all. You are making an issue where there isn't one and being unfairly harsh.

"We recognise that RuneScape has a maturing player base." The more I grew, the less I used profanity so I got a good laugh out of Jagex's logic.

If people turn the filter off, they are obviously not offended by swearing, so how is it harming them if people occasionally swear?

The typical swear words i.e. f-word that aren't offensive i don't care about, but when someone is using a swear word s-word to abuse someone then i believe they should be kicked.

We can't have the filter off and leave to CC Mod's because the CC Mod's aren't always there.

Can't say I agree with this. People have already been using profanity in the lounge and no one has punished them before because there was a filter. Just because the filter has been relaxed doesn't mean we should start punishing users for keeping the same behavior they've had for eons now.

I'm all in favor of punishing for EXCESSIVE use of profanity, but I wouldn't want to see users getting kicked over one here and there.

That being said. It's about Fuzzy Bunny time this update came about. :awesome:

You actually -can't- say your password in-game. Setup your clan chat so only you can enter and try it.

There was a topic posted in Hiker's Campfire similar to this, but I guess it got deleted. My position on this is that the censor was not removed, thus our position in chat should not change.

I prefer the new rules, however, I would still like to point people to my thread within Hikers Campfire discussing the matter further. Everyone should go and have some sort of input there.
