The Fords to watch out for are the ones from about 1996-2000
That's the era of like the bubble taurus which sucked,
and worse yet... the contour...
My dad's had to work on one of those a few times and each time it's worse.
Parts snapped together like legos, things held in place by other key components to save money.... bad

But I'd have to agree, the Ford GT is an awesome car, Even Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear
bought one and he tends to know his stuff, although he seems to give American cars a hard time.

Even he can admit though that after the Focus came out, around 2000, Fords had a more solid feel
with a little more immediacy in power than before.

Next up to bat.
For a long time I completely thought my old Tempo (super budget car) was the slowest thing on the road.
But then I was proven wrong when Nissan came out with this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Cube
Image
Not only is it a vastly uglier car than even the Tempo, but it's also heavier and with a smaller engine
with even less torque than the Tempo's near-100 hp crapbox.

I've heard the phrase "If you don't care WHAT you drive, you don't care HOW you drive."
So I'm guessing drivers of the Cube... are quite dangerous.

I sat in one of those Fuzzy Bunny "Cubes" by Nissan at the Cleveland Auto Show. I'm 5'10".....my head was hitting the roof. Apparently they forgot Americans are slightly taller than your average Asian.

Hell, I fit into a Lotus Elise better! And that car barely comes up to my chest!

Smart car= Should die.

Image

I test drove one for my father since he owns a driving school and wanted one. And good lord i hated it. My head would hit the roof with every little bump. Hitting 3k rpms feels like you will break the car in half. 0-60 in about every leap year.

A guy across the street from me owns one. We had a SRT get together and he came over and made the comment:

"One of two things. Either you guys really love these cars, or you are "r-tards" (damn filter). Then again, I drive a f'n Smartie so what the hell do I know?"

Cool guy. Really like him. He's big into hot rods and big trucks but LOVES his Smart Car. He beats the hell out of it too.

On the note of Smart Cars...

Obviously not stock, but pretty freaking sweet. Hell, if Smart Cars actually performed like this, I think more people would be willing to adopt them.

The Nissan cube.....ickk!!!! This is excruciatingly ugly...

Fords might have been low quality in the past.. however, they make really good cars now. My family has a 2010 ford expedition, it is absolutely a great car.

Imagine if you got in an accident at that speed in that car though. Smartcar just became Murdercar.

If I had one though, I'd do something like this and drop a Hayabusa motor into it for the hell of it.

I think even my Taurus will get to 90 near 16 seconds..
Maybe not, but do you really wanna go 90 in a Smart's fame?

It's like, you could go 40mph on a bike with a good hill, but the crumplezone is you.

I saw a Smart on the highway even which just seems to me
like a gross mis-casting. They don't even do well on highway driving.

Riders in the Tour de France go up to 70mph down the moutains, which i would hate to do going in a straight line.

I quite dislike all Chrysler's.

Tour de France =/= city biking.

I share the contempt for PT Cruisers as somebody already posted.

But love all the toaster cars. Smart cars. Cubes. What have you.

Then again, I've only ever driven a Toyota Sienna.

I am VERY GLAD that the people that posted before me also hate smart cars. They are pathetic. Impractical. Slow.

Every single time I'm beside one at a red light, I motion for them to roll down their window. Once they do, I rev my big fat 5.9L (360) V8 and show them what a real motor sounds like.

I'm very glad PT cruiser was called out. Those are ugly and gutless. I'm glad they are out of production now.

I'm unsure why all the current ford bashing.... Granted, Ford was wimpy from the 80's until the early 2000's(exapmle: 91 mustang. Lollol)(also, exclude ford lightning, that went like a raped ape) but current fords are quite alright. I have a whole big bunch of experience with 2005-2011 F350s. They are good.

Also, I dislike chevs. They shift only after 5500RPM. And have a history of awful tranys. Example: every pickup from the 90s destroyed its trany. And recall on the cameros within 1 year or release

All of them.

They're money-devouring ticking time bombs that just wait until the worst possible god damned moment in your life to have some kind of total system failure. You have to disassemble the bloody contraptions entirely just to work on anything more critical than the electrics, and absolutely everything made after the 80's is so tightly-packed that you need tiny Korean teenage girl hands just to get a Fuzzy Bunny spanner where you need it to go. Don't even get me started on these stupid, just STUPID computer/diagnostic sensor systems they're putting in everything these days! It's just one more thing to go wrong! Then of course there's my specific history of bad CV joints, coolant leaks, plugged radiators, cracked radiators, dead cylinders, cracked head gaskets, and then a bunch of petty Fuzzy Bunny like dead batteries and flat tyres that probably took a few years off of my life. I'm quite certain that I've spent more time in my life vainly trying to get cars to not be the inevitably breaking pieces of scrap metal in the making than I ever spent driving the blasted things.

I'd like to say that this was just with the vehicles I owned, but I've had to work on cars belonging to various people I know/am related to, and the ones I've had to drive for certain jobs were nothing short of dismal at times. Ever accidentally back a truck into the ocean because your boss never told you that there's a break fluid leak and that the emergency cable is gone for no apparent reason?

I hate cars...

@Eadwulf
Sorry you have had such a bad experience with cars.
Much of the time though, the car responds to how you treat it. I inspect my vehicles AT LEAST once a month. Ensuring proper tire pressure, remaining tread, fluid levels, lubricants, leaks, seals, physical damage, debris, general cleanleness. Upkeep plays a big factor too. Regularily replace all fluids to protect moving components, rotate tires, wash your vehicle(and while your there don't be afraid to get under it and wash the undercarrage, and the backs of the wheels to get out unwanted dirt buildup. Also wash the engine area, with it clean you can easily spot leaks)

I do all of this, and my durango has almost 280,000km on it, and its running beautifully.

Sorry your boss is a :bunny: idiot. Giving you a truck that doesn't stop.
