The defenition is getting very loose. At one time it was just Japanese animation, but now all these american and french shows are being called anime? The list is getting very long and filled with things that don't really seem anime, like:

Invader Zim
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Xiaolin Showdown
Martin Mystery
Totally Spies
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
And something called "Der Humpfriß." I don't know what the hell that is either.


Is this pushing the line? What do you think of as anime?


I'd say japanese animation. I'm comfortable calling a few of these shows anime, because they emulate the style so closely, but otherwise, NO.

Ive seen some french anime and some american anime...
They are all different but for some reason i just like japanese more
French characters are always weird and american ones... *cough* cant explain exactly what they are :P
And i have no idea if this post matches the topic :-s

anime is the term used for the styling. not the show. such as invader zim is NOT anime. AT ALL.

This pretty much sums it up. I refuse to recognize anything but Japanese animation as anime.

I've just thought that since anime is simply the Japanese word for animation, animated series from Japan could be called anime.

Japanese Animation is anime, not any of the crap you listed above. Suure its animation, but its American/French, so its not anime. I guess any animation that is serious, but then something happens to make them pull ridiculously stupid, yet funny faces. ^_^
Damn Americans and French want everything...
