Hey everyone! Long time. . .So I thought I'd start with something interesting. . . Before we get into this, please keep yourself at bay, I don't want no bias, no arguments, just your thoughts. . So my question to everyone is are you a smoker? If so, how long and how much do you smoke now?, and do you have motive on stopping anytime soon, and if you do plan to quit soon, what his your predictions for your outcome. Also past smokers, please do share your insight into this all, and your methods of overcoming this addictions.

I, myself have been smoking for the better half of 7 years. Keep in my mind I'm only 21, and I started when I was roughly 14... (stupid decisions, wrong crowd.. Peer pressure, etc..) Now I know I should quit, but as of lately, everything has been falling apart (family & social wise) and as much as It pains me to say, smoking keeps me sane. Yes I know that is very stupid to say, yes I am addicted, but till my life gains some stability, I feel It's needed.

I smoke a pipe on rare occasion, which I will contend is a totally different animal than cigarettes. Mostly because it revolves more around the pleasures of tobacco than getting a nicotine fix. I cannot stand the flavour of cigarettes...

@Eadwulf , See that is completely understandable, that's just simply enjoying life's simple pleasures, as opposed to my situation, which is less pleasure, more feeding a need. .

Financially It kills aswell really, 15.5$ a packet. A packet a day on average... That comes in at nearly 110$ a week . . . Addictions = sucks.

Considering your purposes, might I suggest electronic cigarettes?

I occasionally smoke Hookah and Cigars, but nothing regularly. I used to chew tobacco but I quit over a year ago.

Holy hell, what brand do you smoke? Marlboro reds are like $7 a pack and even that's kind of expensive here.

@Eadwulf , We tried that for a while, but being a full-fledged smoker.. I noticed the difference and threw it away lol. . .

@Goten , Dunhill Blues 25-Pack man 0,0 Australia = Bull prices. Marlboro red are worse If I'm not mistaken

And Hookah, of course Hookah, but here we call it Argila...

I guess I'm just waiting on the right time.

Malboro in general just went up to $5 a pack here after tax.

Also, been tempted to see what happens when I call a Hookah a "Giant Bong" in a store that sells it. I'm told I'll get forcibly thrown out. X3

Hookahs come in all sizes so the term "giant" can't really be applied as a general trait.

Been around smokers most my life. From 14 when I got my first job in a kitchen, until now(22) as a surveyor being outdoors everyday. I have enjoyed a tobacco pipe several times, and other than that, have had less than 1 full pack of cigarettes. I don't enjoy the taste of a cig, and wont force myself to do it.

Also, my girlfriend has serious reactions to smoke. So even if I wanted to, she would get very sick.

I'll do shisha occasionally, but otherwise I generally loathe smokers.

Ditto. I had some shisha last night whilst in bed to help me sleep. I had it whilst consuming bacon. Was a good call.

I occasionally smoke cigars and will share a cig with a friend (usually whilst drinking), but other than that, I never smoke.

That's something I don't understand.. Shisha ( Hookah, Argila... What ever you may call it ) Is twice as bad as cigarettes ( minus the nicotine ) yet people smoke it.

Mord / Simon , out of curiosity, what makes you hate smokers so much so ? Generally my rule is... No smoking near children... EVER. . . But it literally makes me furious when a non-smoking couple come to sit outside near me and friends, and complain about our smoking. .

And for those that don't know...Australia took up this 'campaign' of sorts to make smoking illegal, thus raising the prices from 10.5$ from 3-4 years ago to 15.5$+ . . & are still trying to increase ever more, also trying to legalize plain packaging... and throughout this all they are saying this is for the better of the community.

The smell of a cigerette is disgusting and it confuses me as to how anyone needs to smoke on it to relax. Then again I feel the same way about fat people who indulge in food as comfort.

Don't smoke anything, never have, never will. I have relatives who died cause of smoking... and ones that have been and are still affected by it (lung, heart disease, tooth decay/loss, blindness, etc.).

The people I know who stopped smoking usually fully stopped it by strongly believing in its harmful effects and the benefits of stopping - some replaced it by anti-smoking chewing gums... but stopped it after a while. I also heard that eating eggplant (aubergine) might help as it contains small amounts of nicotine as well.

I believe that the more people are informed of the harmful effects, the more motivation they'll have to stop.... so sorry if this sounds too 'anti-smoking':

People spread the word that waterpipe/nargile/shisha/hookah is less harmful than cigarettes. It may feel less addictive, lighter and more social, but more tar is inhaled than in cigarettes, which is the most harmful part of smoking.

Also, here's a video that might help you understand how harmful cigarettes and tar in general is for your lungs:

Tobacco is delicious.

That said I try to avoid it. Cigarettes every so often, cigars/hookah less often still. Probably best that my favorite cigarettes (Lucky Strike) only come unfiltered in the States - keeps me from smoking more often, probably.

On another note, my housemate is a full-fledged smoker. Used to be a dancer as well, but now that he's stopped that his lungs have taken a harder hit. He's just started smoking e-cigarettes to help himself cut down.
