Step 17 didn't exist for me when I did the quest.
Step 19 - my arm will help you kill it too
Also you should add this somewhere,
plant cure costs 52gp from the gnome at the farming plot at my arm.
if you need anything (like a spade) from the gnome after you kill the level 172, just go down the ladder and back up. the gnome will be there (at least it did for me, i went around looking for a spade..then I decided to go back up, and wow, the gnome's back
