The article shows why Jagex posted the warning on their main page. It seemed fishy to me for them to post a warning about one specific threat, so some research led to the article. This new worm shows the importance of not only performing regular scans, but regular updates to the anti- program of your choice. Performing a scan today is great, but if your program hasnt been updated in weeks/months then that scan was a wasted effort.
Thanks glodenox for the tweaks of my previous post.

Runevillage the forum is pretty well much done. Runevillage the group will eventually die, but as long as we're still friends with each other in the end, it's still a pretty big thought in our heads. It's worse for rs players because it targets rs, if it was a keylogger that wasn't specific to rs, they might just not care about ur pass

Oh great, I STILL dont know how to do a virus check on a mac... -_-
EDIT: 400th Post :0

Luckily for you, 99% of viruses are windows based, and hey.. Windows viruses don't affect Macs at all ^_^

It's sad that these people spend so much time making a virus to hack game passwords.. I mean if all they're going to do is hack for personal benefit, why not go for real money not pixels :|

Sometimes I think there is a type of person that does this mostly because they take delight in others suffering, and not for any other sort of gain.

I think another type does it so they can brag to their friends. They think that if they create a working virus, they can then claim some kind of kinship to some of the legendary hackers that are still held up as true rebels and outlaws in many fringe circles on the net.

And then there is a group who are intelligent but lack a little common sense, they want to make one just to prove to themselves they can, not realizing how this could negatively impact other people. They do it for “fun” as they see it. Having never been on the other side of it they don’t “get” the damage it can cause.

Well, those are my thoughts on it anyway.

This one only target runescape players, I think. Other viruses only ruin the entire computer so jagex don't really care.

Wait, how did you just use the words "only" then "entire" in like, the same sentence?

It doesn't only affect runescape, it doesn't affect runescape. It just has the chance of nibbing your password as a set of keystrokes, like any keylogger, although it DOES look out for info entered into the runescape site from what I gather. Just a semi-smart keylogger; I'm not calling other keyloggers stupid, just like you have a targeted "smart-bomb," you have "smart keyloggers."

I smell pears.

It's still a good reason to have people pay more attention though ;) Many people neglected decently protecting their computer, now many of those people have realised they really need to protect it better.

Actually, even if this was made up (though we know it isn't) I would still find it a good reason to make a newspost...
