Shooting People

“Think you've got what it takes to be an assassin?” reads the Street Wars homepage, a new game which involves hunting down other players and killing them!

< The game, which started in London on the 25th of July, lasts 3 weeks. You or your team will have to hunt down your intended target(s) and assassinate them as discretely as possible without alerting or accidentally “killing” civilians... with water guns, that is.

Upon entering the game, you receive a manila envelope containing:

• A picture of your intended target(s).
• The home address of your intended target(s).
• The work address of your intended target(s).
• The name of your intended target(s).
• Contact information of your intended target(s).

You or your team are then sent on your way to murder the players your manila envelope contains by using a water gun, water balloon or super soaker. You are also allowed to design and build your own stealth water shooting devices as long as it's not just a glass of water!

A single drop of water fired by you or your team that connects with your opponent counts as a “kill”, upon killing your opponent you will be given their manila envelope and will have to hunt down the target(s) in that envelope! If you receive an envelope with you or your team's picture in it, it does not mean you have to shoot yourself. It means you win a cash prize that might just reach almost 500 dollars!

The rules are strictly for people who play the game, and a full set is not supplied until you pay your entry fee, although some rules released include definitions on what is a kill and what isn't. They make it clear that you can not kill your target(s) if you do not do it with some class. They will not accept kills of this manner:

• Water bombing a crowded area.
• Throwing a glass of water at your target(s).
• Killing your target(s) at their place of work or within a set radius of their work place (unless it's in a parked car).
• Killing your target(s) on a bus or at a bus stop.
• Killing your target(s) at bars.
• Killing people you are not assigned to.

You can defend yourself, however. If you manage to shoot your assassin before he shoots you then his kill does not count, and you live to see another day.

The game has already had successful visits to New York (twice), Vancouver, Vienna, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. However, London and the British Transport Police have expressed growing fears of the visit by the Street Wars game and have labelled the organisers and all contestants as irresponsible. The BTP is most concerned with the panic that could be sparked on the Underground after just one year since the tragic events of July 7th, 2005. They warned that the sight of people brandishing water guns that looked like real firearms would cause genuine fear and lead to the deployment of armed police.

"The transport system is not the place for this sort of activity," Superintendent Bob Pacey says. "Those thinking of taking part should consider that they may be committing criminal offences and are putting themselves and others in danger. … Calls to the police may lead to disruption to services and the deployment of armed officers. Any offences committed will be treated seriously."

British Forces have shot and killed 6 people in as many years for carrying replica firearms, so the organisers can put a new meaning into the phrase they deliver with all Manila Envelopes: “Live in fear”.
