He was of the same spiritual level as the other Espada, but technically isn't one because he wasn't ever given a number.

Spoilers for this week's issue!
Hidden: 
- Yamma Jii killed Wonderdouche
- Turns out wonderdouche had sucked up all of Ryuujinjakka's fire, so now all the fire is about to explode and take both the fake and real kara town with it.
- Yama jii throws himself into the fire to stop it, and succeeds - but he (seems) severely injured.
- Aizen says a smart remark, yamma calls him a brat and grabs him by the foot and uses some 90-level kido on him point blank.
- Aizen retreats and looks like he's taken damage, he has a worried look on his face. Ichigo comes up behind him in vizard mask form.

So Aizen's not a hollow, that's very good news

And though the hougyoku does give him power, it also gives him a weak spot, though Aizen has shown to be prepared for almost everything, and Ichigo's not too bright

We need Ishida ideally

Why is he waiting for the last possible second to show up? I know that's how things usually work, but shouldn't Urahara already be here fighting? Judging from the amount of planning and preparation he put in before this battle, he should be ready, not rushing around at the last second trying to get things in place.

Though, this does bring up a few questions:
1. What is special about Isshin that makes his son special?
2. What about Ichigo is special compared to all the other kids of shinigami?
3. Is there anything special about Ichigo's mother?
I'm actually hoping for a bit of exposition here.
