Sorry snake, but I'd like to keep this topic open just a little longer...

dustin wrote:
sounds like the exact same replies i have been hearing for a year and a half, here let me predict what is happening in the web developers forum

1) there have been 3 "lets it get it together" or "cmon guys" topics created in the last 8 months, the user or users that created these feels overworked.

2) 25% of the leaders haven't posted in that forum in over 2 weeks, another 50% do nothing but make heartless encouragement, the final 25% do 80% of the groups work, and have debated leaving on several occasions

3) 80% of the topics are created by 4 different users

4) one leader attempted to assign tasks to people, these tasks had deadlines, this resulted in a spike in activity, then a sudden drop because it was like work

1. We don't need any 'lets get it together' topics. Just today (sept 19, still about 7hrs left of this day), we've had 43 posts in the Website Team forum, and three new topics have been created. Two of those topics are about new features. The third topic is about something we could possibly do after RV2, so believe it or not we're able to make plans for the future of RV while working diligently on the project that will save this fansite.

2. There are three leaders of the RV2 project (Glodenox, a5chow, and myself). A5chow is the project manager, Glodenox is in charge of coding, and I'm in charge of design. We all spend most of our RV time in that forum, and most of our freetime working on RV2. None of us have ever threatened to leave the team.

3. Most new topics are created by project leaders, so you're right on that one, but it doesn't prove anything bad. ;) We have plenty of active non-leaders.

4. We do assign tasks to people, and believe it or not, the tasks get done.

Anyway enough about us, what about you, dustin? What are you doing to help RV? You're not in any guide teams, you're not in the database team... you're not in any of the usergroups that keep RV alive. What's stopping you from joining any of those teams? Maybe you were an active helper before... in fact I know you were because you used to be a mod and a member/leader of the RVET, but what are you doing right now, in a time when RV needs all the help it can get? Perhaps you should consider getting up and doing something instead of sitting around and accusing RV's hardest workers of doing nothing.

Also, I'd like to add that the reason that currently most topics are made by the leaders are due to us trying to recover (well, we have, basically...) from the setback we've just had.

We have indeed attempted to set deadlines for features, but very quickly it showed that it was impossible to effectively set those for tasks due to this being a complete volunteer project which is totally dependant on the amount of free time that the members have.

As for me spending most of my time there: I'd say I spend 75% of my time in there. The other 25% is keeping the current setup working properly and sometimes improving the forum.

So really: we're working on it, the situation really isn't as you described it and we *are* making progress.

I think you just trashed your reputation here dustin. :?
Jenny, Jackstick and Glode are doing an outstanding job with managing the team and the forum. Seriously, I've seen payed organizations that are doing worse, and we're all doing this in addition to our actual work in real life! And about our activity... I often think we might even be more active than the rest of the forum, you guys need to work on your own activity. You should have some respect towards the website team. We can't always deal with the hassle you all start, we already do the development diaries in addition to the workload, isn't that enough?
Man, I'd expect better from you dustin. :|

I stopped playing Runescape years ago, and am only back here because MSSW5 will be happening soon. If what jack said is true then it sounds like you guys are making quite a bit of headway on RV2, and that my claims are unfounded. For that i apologize.

As for why i am not helping, well it is because i am working on my own projects. ATM it is MSSW5, but i got a few improvements that i need to add to dimg.biz, and i am making a torrenting site with my friend (we are like 75% done), and i am making another more grown up site (not a pron site lol) that will be launching in a few weeks. If you want a link and a beta password send me a PM, but i wont be posting it here lol. Also i am a 3rd year computing science student, so school is pretty rough.

@Dark Paladin
I am pretty sure most people here have forgotten me, so better to have a bad reputation that no reputation i guess :P Also if you remember my leaving topic, or could view some of my posts in the mod forum you would see that this is not against my character to do. I hate seeing projects fail.

Well since this has been pretty much settled, I'll reinstate the lock Snake originally threw on this topic.

On a final note, what Dark Paladin said is true - The Website forum's activity puts the rest of RV to shame.
