Hiker received a message from our host, which will most likely affect you as well:


For those of you who didn't see the previous global: the server security was breached and a malware distributing script was ran on the server. What this means for you? If you were on the server two days ago and had problems with your computer or saw strange things happening to it: make sure you scan it for malware! To be safe: even scan if you're not experiencing anything wrong!

What this is going to mean for us, will be that the server is going to be down for quite a while and once it gets up again, we're not sure whether all data is still going to be on it. Therefore it's best not to post any big things on the forum for now, because we'll most likely be unable to store it. I'll be making a backup of our database about 5 hours before they're going to do the moving (I have an exam this Friday, so I won't be staying online till it is going to take place), but that backup won't guarantee nothing is going to be lost.

RuneVillage will be the first site that is going to be restored, as requested by hiker, but seeing it is most likely also the biggest site, it'll most likely take the longest. We're not yet sure of whether we're going to set up an alternate location for the forum and everything or not. I could perhaps lend my own website for the forum and chat system, but I'm not too sure about that yet.
EDIT: we can't guarantee anything about how long it is going to take, but it could very well take over a day (although I personally doubt that). Apparently this attack infected almost their complete data center...

We apologise for any inconvenience, but seeing this is the best way to get rid of that security breach, I'm sure you'll understand it.

It can be anywhere from I guess 12 hours to 2 days, according to it, starting on midnight in whatever timezone the host is.

OK, now what timezone is the host in? I think it's in the US...

Okay, an update to the situation: it *is* still going to happen Zilla. All the data is most likely going to be lost, but I'm taking back-ups to prevent that from happening.

I'll be hosting the forum on my own website in about 4 hours or so. This will be done in a short transition period. I'll do my very best to make sure nothing is going to get lost. Seeing the host will just be using its latest backup it took, there's bound to be a rollback in their system. Hopefully I'll be able to prevent just that.

Also people: when the site comes back online, it's best not to go post there because I'll most likely wipe out the database then and put the database from my own site (where our forum will be put for the time being) there. That way theoretically speaking you shouldn't lose any changes/posts you make.

Bad news: it's way too hard to really take backups of all database tables.

Good news: the backup of our site is of only 2 days ago. Therefore I'm going to focus on the posts that were made in the past 2 days and I'll try to get those back on the server once it's back.

Please though make backups of any important posts you edited/made the past 2 to 3 days!

Yes, if the host can keep up to his word, we'll have a rollback of only 2 days, which is reasonable.

update....

the host has given us a way to maybe download the entire database in one whack.... i'm going to give it a try right now -- 5pm CST... and we will be subject to go down at anytime after that....

we will need to be offline again while i make the backup....

but that will give us a single file that we can restore... and posts between now and and when we come back, including ones on Glodenox's temp server will be lost.

So... It went down already... Since it wasn't for too long though, I'm guessing it didn't actually get moved?
