Well Cinderella, we CAN post health and nutrion topics there, your right. And you may not see that many Nutrition or Health topics in there. But if there was a forum dedicated to it, there should be a few members who would say " Oh health and nutrition, i have some good information to share" and actually be active in that forum.

Those who are against it, come on, have an open mind. I am sure Hiker had to give it a try to open Runevillage knowing it go unsuccessful :), and look at us, great community, active, and interesting topics all around.

It is not close minded to say a new usergroup isn't needed, there are many dedicated health and fitness forums out there if you really wish to discuss these things. Runevillage is primarily a runescape fansite, which is why the runescape part is split into different sections, general chat is supposed to cover most of the off-topic things, I can't think of a positive reason to have a seperate section just for health and fitness.

There are many Anime, Car enthusiast, Computer help, and Sci Fi forums out there also. :| Why do we have these in that case?

They have been there a long time, like I have said before I don't agree with them, I feel the activity should be re-directed to the open forums, there is no reason really to have "private" sections, surely all discussion should be encouraged?

Exactly :D, i also see no reason why we should only have Runescape discussion, and a few other topics. Variety never hurt anybody, and it actually increases forum activity. It doesnt necessarily mean, other forums are going to lose activity. Members choose to join it or not out of their personal interest. And if Fitness and Nutrition is one of them, they can join and read/share their opinions on it.

if the fitness topics would otherwise have been posted in general chat but instead are going in a different section how can it not decrease the forum activity of general chat?

Sure a few people on the forums like fitness and diet, a few people on the forums like heavy metal music, should there be a section specifically for them? No, because their interests fit into the media section of the forums, similarly, fitness and diet fits in general chat.

Guys, I think the proposal has moved beyond a usergroup. I think that any new forum would be just that, a forum and not a usergroup. I've never been the biggest fan of walling off users into private usergroups either.

A similar argument was advanced before we added the Media Mansion forum. Some people said that music, TV and film discussion can fit fine into General Chat. I mean...we could fit all discussion into one big forum, but it'd get too tiresome to track through. It's better to subdivide, as long as all the forums are active. And just as Media Mansion is active today, I think a Health & Fitness forum would be. As others have said, worst case scenario it is removed in 6 months time.

There is not a single Fitness/Nutrition topic in the first page of general chat right now...why bother making another forum? I could see the reasoning behind it if general chat was flooded with these topics...but it isn't.

This would be like me asking for a usergroup about writing utensils. EVERYBODY uses them, right? So who cares if there aren't any topics in general chat about them, if someone sees a forum called "Writing Utensil Discussion", they'll for sure be like "oooohh, I know some damn fine pencil manufacturers."
Saying people will post in a forum purely because it is there when there is not a single topic on the first page of General Chat is really not a reliable reason for the creation of a forum.

Also, we apparently don't make usergroups anymore unless 98% of the village cries about wanting one, so yeah. I wouldn't hold your breath on this one.

EDIT: Correction, there is one near the bottom of the page that seems to have been active for a while then died out. Which is more than likely what would happen with this usergroup if it were made.

If you look in that thread, its actual questions on Fitness, and there are a variety of posters. Also, we havent made anymore usergroups, doesnt mean we dont make them anymore.

Yeah, it has questions on fitness, but that doesn't stop the last post being 11 days ago - aka, the thread is dead.

No reason to get your knickers in a knot, guys. Should this be approved, and the forum fails, it'll get deleted. Again, we won't know unless we try, all this is simply speculation.

Thank you, for a more thought-out post than mine (Stupid stress), from what i have read, a usergroup has 3 warning and they are out (3 Strikes), when there is no activity for a week they receive a warning. If approved we need the right amount of momentum :) and we should get going nicely. Plus when was the last forum added? They seem to be doing well.

Which is a waste of time.

A single, dead topic in General Chat isn't enough to justify a whole new usergroup...especially when we aren't making them anymore. :-s

And that's what we call 'opinion'. That's simply what you think, many think otherwise.

Lets leave it up to the Administrators, they will read all our opinions and make a decision out of it.

More opinions welcomed.

No opinions are welcomed in this thread. Anything other than "Yeah, it'll be awesome to talk about Fitness" is instantly shot down.

And it was up to the Admins from the beginning, my friend.
