Eh - Christmas is over, and usual, I'm left with money, and lack of entertainment in my day-to-day routine. For a while, I've been looking for a new console to entertain myself. The last thing i ever bought myself was a PS2 (Which i sold).

However, I'm left with money, enough to buy either: Xbox360 (Elite), or a PS3.

Now - Ive been a sony man for my life. Ive always used Sony products, and found them quite reliable. When the PS3 came out, I set my heart upon one..and then - after opening numerous Christmas cards, I noticed i had enough for one.

So i browsed around..but at the same time chatted to my geeky Step Brother-in-law. He said that:

+ The PS3 over-heats after 2 hours of gameplay, and the games crash all the time.
+ Waste of Money

I've NEVER ever considered getting an Xbox in my life..but after looking at the options - I've got to say, a Xbox360 looks a better option than a PS3.

I just wondered what your opinions were? What i need to get etc? What do you prefer?

Ive got money to spend, so really - Im looking at: Gameplay, AI, etcetc.

Thoughts?

It really depends on what games you like or are looking forward to. But regardless of what your favorite kind of games are, its likely that the 360 will be your best option as it has the best online service and a pretty diverse lineup of games. Except well... platformers. I'm not even sure if it has any platformers.

I don't know what he's talking about crashing and overheating, because I played Rock Band on my cousin's PS3 for a good four hours or so.
Really, it's kind of a hard choice. Right now, I think the 360 has far more games, but that doesn't mean that they're all good. Still it has a great online service and some big titles. Several on the way, too. PS3 has free online and is Blu Ray capable, if you're into that as well. Pretty fun from what I've experienced.

Meh, I'm not the best guy to ask. Maybe look around at the sticky?

I'm also looking at purchasing a console, but I'm not sure which one would suit me the best. I'm leaning towards xbox360...

The 360 is totally worth it. The only thing that the ps3 has going for it is mediocre online play, great graphics, the best of the next-gen consoles, and a few good games. The 360 has great online play and service, a vast range of games, including Rock Band, GHIII, Halo 3, Creed, Bio Shock, and the Orange Box. I realise that some of those are infact multi-platform, but I'm making the point of the 360 having it's exclusives, plus a bunch of MPers. If you are a fan of MPers (multi-platformers), then go with the 360, because it has greater online play, and a better controller, IMO.

your exactly in the same situation as I am luckily I researched a lot for this one
and I wil buy an xbox 360, because PS3 is very expensive and very similar to xbox
but I would look up the games that come out in both before deciding.

I prefer the Xbox 360. PS3 has Bluray, but that's not very useful as of yet. Plus, X box 360 has a lot more and better games in my opinion.

I'd buy the 360 not only because I own one, But because with a HDTV the graphics are amazing. Also the games for the console are top selling ones. At the Video game awards almost every game was for the 360. It doesn't over heat and has so many options (Download able games,Demos,Themes, Microsoft points you can buy without leaving your house, Alot of top selling games.)
It's just a better option.

I personally own a 360, but my buddy has a PS3. This year he went out and bought a 360 as well as a few games (FEAR, oblivion, Orange Box) and loves it. He has both fear and oblivion for PS3 but when he got stuck in Oblivion on his PS3, he had to resort to the internet. On his 360, he just asked me into a chat and boom, he was through. Im not saying the PS3 is a bad console, its great in its own regard. It has Blu Ray whereas 360 has an add on HD Drive. But the line of games for the 360 is varied and Sony has lost its liscence to make Final Fantasy games so the 360 is now going to feature FF. Anyway, I have had 1 problem with my 360: it was an early model and the lazer in the DVD drive went bad. I called Microsoft and they said they would be sending me materials to ship it in within 3 days. Day 3 comes and there it is. I was expecting a box and packing peanuts but no. I get custom foam, packing instructions, a nice heavy duty box, an anti static bag, and sealing tape. What did it cost me to ship? NOTHING it came with a UPS 3 day mail tag. They said allow 2 weeks for redilivery. so at the 2 week mark, I see another box on my doorste. Its the 360. Mines faceplate had a piece missing when I sent it from it being scratched and it was fixed. Enclosed was a 1 month free gold Xbox live card and a letter saying they were sorry for the inconvenience and hoped that I didnt have another issue. I havent.. Now that is customer support.

The thing is - If you don't have a console, or you don't buy the DVD's, or you dont have SkyHD - HDTV are currently useless. It seems to me as the PS3 is too futuristic, they've got a Blueray, but hardly capitalize on it.

I also saw the difference in price on games. Whereas i can head into Game and get an Xbox360 game, now - brand new, new release £45; whereas PS3 games are £65 used and new.

The one thing that look "appealing" with the PS3 was the Browser WiFi facility, but then heard it was extremely slow.

So - it looks like the 360 has won

I have to say the 360.

sure you won't get MGS,Resistance:fall of man and some other games but missing the games on the ps3 is better then missing Bioshock,Mass effect, halo 3, gears of war, or other awsome games on the 360.

i have a xbox 360 and a ps3, an the ps3 will win everytime, i can play ps for hours or just browse the internext from the ps3, i can even stream films from ps3 an watch them on my tv, not to mention the xbox 360 is the one that is prone to overheat. google "3 red rings" or "The Red Ring of Death" it will tell u all u need to know about the 360

tho a good thing about the 360 is because there consoles break down so much you get a 3 years warranty instead of there normal 90 day's

I mean, you should check out the games before deciding always. You'll see a big difference between Wii and x box games

The topic is about PS3 and Xbox 360. He doesn't care about the Wii. Its already been ruled out.

i dont have anything to say for or against the PS3 as the only game i've played is Rock Band.


i got a 360 for christmas and it's great.

keep in mind though, all i've really played is halo due to that's what my friends and i play a lot.

Xbox Live is great if you want the online service. almost everything about it is simple and convienient to use. worth the money.

i dont know how ps3's online service works so i cant really compare.

it depends on the exclusives IMO. i really wanted to be able to play Halo against my friends and try bioshock sometime. but PS3 has great games too like Resistence, Ratchet and Clank, Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy. I'm actually gonna miss not having KH and FF this gen, but i can deal with it.
