So, a popular idea (and personal favorite of mine) from the global announcement was to downsize RV and basically keep it around as a much smaller, simpler site for us to stay connected.

Here's what I'm thinking:

Village Hall
(Absorbs: News & Announcements)
Subforum: Village Archive

The Lounge

Gaming
(Absorbs: RuneScape, Minecraft, Parties & Events, Goals & Achievements, Field of Death)

General Chat
(Absorbs: Pictures & Videos, Technical & Web Discussion, Debate Forum)

Media Mansion
Subforum: Anime & Manga Shrine

Roleplay & Literary Society




Please consider our extremely low activity level if you want to suggest keeping more forums around. I'd be more receptive to even more downsizing than what I've presented above.

I was under the impression Tech Elite couldn't be absorbed because it contains proprietary code that shouldn't be publicly released. Is this still the case?

My main worry is sticky consolidation, especially when you combine Goals & Achievements with Game Discussion. Some of them can go away but many cannot.

Also I don't like the idea of merging Debate Forum into General Chat, but that's me.

Looks and sounds great, Jack.. All I can suggest is also keep Legends Discussion (I know it's deader then dead now but still...) & Staff Lounge as is, and incorporate Pictures & Videos into Media Mansion as opposed to General Chat.

Let us see some progress either way!

I agree with this format.

Can always start new debate topics with "Debate:" in the title or something. The Debate Forum is really dead. It only has 5 topics with posts from 2013 in it, several which were only bumped recently by the troll lovefoto...

I'm okay with this set up. I've always though that the Pictures and Videos forums should've stayed as one, but it wasn't really that big of a deal.

Since you've lost virtually all hope that we can make the Village into something fresh and new, at least give the Mafia their own forum. I always wondered why it wasn't a seperate forum anyway...

Though, IMHO I think a downsize might be more destructive than not. And is there really any actual need for a downsize, other than to fake the illusion of activity?

IMHO News and Announcements should stay separate, as should Tech and Web support. Though in the case of the tech and web support, my personal choice would be to turn it into a tech support and tech discussion forum. Not just tech as in computers, but cars, planes, TV's, washing machines, etc. Maybe call it the Tinkerer's Workshop. Have a problem with your head gasket? Post it there! Washing Machine gone on the blink? Post it there! Got a new phone? Post it there! etc etc etc.

Either way, i'm not too fussed for a downsize. Anime and manga and pictures and videos could quite happily be merged into general chat... That is of course, if the downsize actually happens.

RP & Lit is basically the "Mafia Forum". I don't see a point in creating a whole new forum. It would take too much activity away from RP & Lit, and spreading our little activity thin is the opposite of what we're trying to accomplish here.

Ok, fair enough.
1) We're not trying to fake anything--we know exactly how active RV is.
2) We still have a lot of users that say they stick to certain forums and ignore all the others. If taking three forums that get 3 posts each and merging them into one forum with 9 posts means someone that actually browses RV sees (and possibly replies) to 9 posts instead of 3 or 6, then I personally think it's worth it.

True, this will require a bit of a delicate approach. I don't want us to have too many stickies, but at the same time I don't plan on getting rid of the ones that are still actively updated and/or used. Let me know if you have any suggestions on that front.

Downsizing seems the best way. If RV ever gets more popular it wont be a huge deal to add them back.

I concur w/ this format, although I think the RP & Lit Forum should be split to and called something like "Mafia/Roleplay" and "Literary Society" to put some emphasis on Mafia. I think that emphasis is necessary.
