Judging from what I saw him doing with games while at school, it was an accurate one. His ability to dissect games and pick things apart when playing was pretty phenomenal whenever I watched him.

Slight hijack: What are some really good remakes you've played?

Dead or Alive: Dimensions isn't really marketed as a "remake" or "re-release", but it pretty much is one. It chronicles the stories/tournaments of DoA 1 through 4, even filling in some gaps and having additional scenes of events that weren't covered in detail in the original games, and it has more playable characters than any other DoA game (including DoA 5), and the graphics and 3D are really good. I've never played any of the original DoA games, but I think this game is the perfect way for newbies like me to jump into the series.

Final Fantasy VII and X on PS3.

Jaron, oh Jaron. I don't know how in the world you could consider FFXII among your favorites. A lot of people consider it one of the weakest entries in the series, myself included.

Lander, oh Lander. I know they do, because Topsummoner kept giving me crap about it too. But some people consider Final Fantasy X to be the worst in the entire series, myself included.

FFT, FF9, and FF12 would probably be my top three.

DUDE DON'T YOU EVEN TRY TO HIJACK MY TO--wait I mean Kirby Super Star Ultra for the DS was everything I wanted and more from the game. It was an SNES classic and they really, truly did it justice in the remake.

I thought Super Mario 64 DS was pretty good for remake.

I liked XII a lot as well; the story was leaps and bounds better than X. There were some things that bugged me about it (like Vaan), but I still loved it. Favorite in the series has to be FFTA though.

Have either of you played Final Fantasy XII: Revenent Wings? It looks to be rather similar in gameplay to the Tactics line.

I'm not saying I didn't like it, or certain aspects of it, I said it was one of the weaker entries.

X holds a special place in my heart for the revolutionary voice overs, first entry on the PS2, etc etc. It was an incredible game on a lot of fronts. It looked great, sounded great, had a strong storyline, and had fun characters. Tidus might have been a , but god damn it if he didn't brighten the game with all of the doom and gloom around him.

XII had such a convoluted storyline that I doubt I could follow it even now, having played it when it came out when I was in high school. Maybe it wasn't so much that it was convoluted, but more that I didn't care about it. I cared about X and the characters in it, about Yuna's plight. I barely knew what was going on in XII. Some kind of war? Judges? A guy taking over the earth? A princess? The characters were flat as hell, the look was lacking, what with Vaan's cell shaded abs, the damn ability map was stupid, the combat system was entirely flawed. I could go on.

However it should be mentioned that XII is my most played FF title after VII-IX (including tactics), so I spent more time on it than on X, even though I would say that X is the superior game. I did quite enjoy the wide array of side quests in XII. But when the best thing in the game is a side quest (hunting Gilgamesh) you're doing it wrong.

My favorite FF game will always be VIII, as it's the first one I played, so that's not entirely fair. I'm gonna be a total Fuzzy Bunny and hail VII as the 'best' entry, though. Tactics was incredible, though, and I still play it to this day because the possibilities are literally endless in terms of character development.

But yeah. FF XII sucks hard.

Final Fantasy VI master race reporting in.

(No, I do not want this remade; that would only dilute it.)

Absolutely. It's already been remade, if I want to play it again I'll go play either the original or one of the remakes.

What's hard to understand about a small country being caught in the middle of a war between two greater powers, with the 'evil' power attempting to use a crystallized source of near unending magical energy as the foundation for their conquest, and doing through many steps (as well as disappointments) to figure out your party has to do something about their control over said powers while keeping the little country safe from political (and thus physical) harm?

Penelo was flat as hell. If Vaan had a few more of her lines and took her few saving grace personality traits, he'd be a better "protagonist", but he said it himself in Archadia; he's just along for the ride. And it's not something to make him a bad character, but when you start to expect Balthier to be making the big plot twists happen, that's probably a sign of lack of creativity on the writers' part. The characters themselves, aside from that, weren't as bad as you say. :?: The one complaint I'd have about them is that a few of your guest allies had more interesting personalities than your "protagonists" sometimes.
Flawed battle only in that you couldn't cast spells and items without a little overload happening. Three -aga spells at the most, waiting your turn to cast a spell, etc. while attacking units get free reign? Yeah, I disagree with that.
The ability map was a little disorganized at worst. Being able to make each character what you wanted is something that's not seen in nearly any console RPG, so to get it from this one as well as they did is a good change of pace. You can't deny that they made it possible to actually customize your characters to how you think they should fight (up until the entire board is unlocked and bought out anyway). If there's a complaint with the grid method, it's that you can't see what the next panel will unlock before you go spending your License Points, which potentially wastes points searching for a specific spell / accessory / item.

The graphics aren't the best, but given I'm willing to play this just because it handles better than Pogo's Monopoly, that's a point I'll concede without contest.

You should check out the GBA re-release if you haven't already. It has more espers and areas than the original.

I think FFXII's ability map was awesome and the combat system wasn't flawed at all, but I don't really want to get into it so I'll just agree to disagree. (The only thing I would agree on though is that they should've told me that unlocking an Esper would give me x2 or x3 MP. I started having trouble near the end of the game because I hadn't bothered to unlock any of them and kept running out of MP, lol.)

But seeing as we both think so highly of Tactics--how can you possibly think FFXII's storyline is convuluted, when Final Fantasy Tactics easily had the most insanely complex storyline of any game I've ever played? :P

XII is just a smidgen above sniffing a freshly produced dog turd.

X.......I truly believe that God and Satan worked together to create this masterful piece of art. Forget Picasso, Rembrandt, etc......This is art. This is technique. This is God's work.

Since Final Fantasy seems to be very popular in this thread, here's a vid of the FFX re-release on PS Vita (it will also be on PS3):

Sorry for the Fuzzy Bunny video quality:
