We were halfway into a session where three of us were in a fight against a solo monster, three of us had just finished being diplomatic with the other five.
Of what? Wereboar type creatures that had spent a few thousand years in hell and now have returned (likely due to our intervention). Except we all seem to be trapped within a single area; there's a triangle of pillars that serve as a "loop" of sorts, bringing us back to the glade we returned home to.

We have broken one of three of these pillars, and were interrupted in our quest for the second by said creatures. Rinse and repeat until you're caught up.

So are we ever gonna start this up again? My roommate just got into a D&D group and I'm jealous.

1.) When we can find a solution to our current party dilemma's division. We've got three people riding a halfway-diplomacy ridden demon with three people soloing a demon high on bloodlust. We can't exactly converge magically under the circumstances.
2.) When Dan stops giving away all his free time to Valve and college and girlfriend. None of the above are worth taking him away to DnD for.

Which is just as well; yesterday I finally learned that there are no craft skills in fourth edition and nearly went into conniptions. Seriously, no Fuzzy Bunny alchemy?! This edition is pretty much just a combat simulator, isn't it? I'm starting to think Pathfinder may have been a better choice...

I've also been reading the DM guides, which gave me the impression that WotC started dumbing a lot of things down (I don't know how I didn't figure that one out sooner), did some research, and the phrase "streamlined DMing" came up. Yeah, that's fine if you're a 14 year old who's still trying to figure the game out, but now it's becoming apparent to me that seasoned DMs are essentially obligated to cough up a heaping pile of house rules for any team that isn't a pack of incompetent zombies. UNACCEPTABLE! THIS IS NOT VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

So, yeah. Not dying to jump back into the campaign at the moment.

Dan's been pretty cool about trying to give us ways around the rules to give us what we want.

Kio, my first Paladin, was essentially a completely customized race.
Astram, as you recall, can Intimidate foes and jump into their memories. By the book, not possible.

We've had about as many chances to roleplay our Fuzzy Bunny as we have had to hack and slash through it. Problem is most of the time we only have hack and slash characters. This is why I think those races from the later books (Thief Rogue instead of Scoundrel, Slayer Fighter instead of Weaponmaster) should be what we use: their mechanics seem different in that they seem heavier on roleplay and their combat options are simple.

Consider yourself promoted. I'm guessing you'll probably want to contact him for his DM notes if you feel like continuing the campaign that we're still supposedly in...

Perhaps, but you're certainly a better choice than I am; experience has taught me that I'm very pedantic... For example, a few weeks ago I actually started putting together a campaign out of sheer boredom just to continue faffing about with 4e. Then I realised that I had spent a week putting together a town down to its main population, economics, infrastructure, and calculating the exact numbers of every possible kind of shop that a town of its size could have in a mediaeval fantasy campaign. It would be approximately 1800 squares for the actual town itself, with appropriately several acres of outlying farmsteads based upon estimated climatology. Bear in mind that this is just a moderately sized town (by mediaeval standards, no less), not a city, and essentially a starting area where the players would just pick up the initial quest/sidequests before heading out into the country. I never got past the writing phase...

If you guys are worried about writing the campaign, I could just give a new DM my notes and backstories for all of the events of the last two campaigns (which have occurred within the same timeline anyway). Doesn't necessarily have to continue the planned plotlines either. That way, you guys can just continue without having to make new characters, and actually get some closure on things.

Okay, change in plan lads; I'm your new Dungeonmaster. Blue has given me everything he knows about the campaign/setting so far, but unfortunately he's lost his notes, and as such I'm receiving the info ad memoriam. Nonetheless, I've assembled everything I've got so far into notes, with probably enough to finish the current encounter and see where we go from there. This also means that, unless we have another sudden reorg, Cenward is out of the picture. I personally hate DMPCs.

The way I see it, we have a couple of choices: we can continue what's left of this current campaign as is, start a new one in roughly the same setting, or just start a new campaign entirely. Of the latter two, I'd prefer to just scrap the current setting and make a new campaign entirely, as I'm really just working with the bare bones of information here, and without the current plot there isn't much to recommend it.

So it's really down to continuing what we're on, or making a new campaign with a couple of different available options. If we go the route of a new campaign, and you want to keep your current characters, that's fine with me, but you should probably expect to have them nerfed back down to around level 1.

So, players, I leave the decision up to you. Also, FYI, I strongly prefer to have at least four players in a group. I can't remember everyone's damned contact info via skype, but I'm sure Kik can drop everyone a line if nobody posts in here within the next day or so.

I'm honestly down for whatever; it'd probably be best to not continue Blue's campaign under someone else, but either way I'll be happy. Dunno if I'd want to make another new character though....

I'm down to start from scratch. I was enjoying the current campaign, but I will be able to participate more now, and am cool to make a new character and all that.

Note: The direction was actually determined by you guys in the context of the back story, not necessarily by a predetermined series of events. That was my main goal when I set it up; lots of options for a direction. I don't have to be involved at all for this setting to continue, if that's the biggest concern.

And Ead, I remembered more of the pertinent stuff for the current campaign if you decide you want to know it. I could also send along some of the ideas I've had for locations as well, as well as the specifics for how I treat dimensions.

Alright, based on input so far, I've decided to build a completely new campaign in an original setting of mine, with which I am heavily adapting D&D lore. We still need at least one more committed player though (Blue said he'd roll up a character, but that he probably won't be in regularly).

Once I get all of the player reference material together and start refining the plot intro, I'll post a new thread for the campaign.

Why a new thread? New campaign is a good enough idea, but I quite like having this thread encompassing all our shenanigans.

Because a) I'm not the author of this thread, and b) it could get confusing if Blue ever wanted to resume DMing at some point.

I might be interested in learning if you guys don't mind someone that knows next to nothing about d&d.

1) Ead, I wasn't original author of this thread, Rocky was. Its encompassed two campaigns. If you want, I can just transfer ownership over to you.

2) Ex, we'd love to teach you.

Oh good. Now we just have to wait however the hell long it's going to take for me to finish building the campaign start (read: may take a while; I've only barely just gotten started on my charts yesterday).

EDIT: Screw it; I just decided to lump everything into a new thread: viewtopic.php?f=118&t=438509

I can always have it merged at a later date anyway.
