My goal for the next 5 years is to graduate HS. Senior year this year. Go to SPC then Tech for a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice then become a Game Warden.
This career expo I went to the lady who was one told me to say goodbye to holidays and that I'll be on 24/7 call.
I Still think It's worth it and it has more power when compared to other Law Enforcement. I don't plan on being stationed anywhere within Texas I don't plan on staying where I live after I graduate college.
I will be able to create my own hours, but will have days off other than Saturday and Sunday which is fine with me. I already try to work 7 days a week with School.

What are your plans? Or are you at where you thought you would be? Better off or worse than you hoped/planned?

game warden eh? Sounds kinda fun!
I have never been hunting, but fishing is enjoyable.

As for me, I am more or less on track. I had a bit of a set back in the spring when I was laid off. But my new company is far better. treating me with more respect, being more honest, and paying me better. I will be running a crew again in a couple weeks. and over the next couple years I will be completing 15 exams to get my commission to be a professional land surveyor and create legal survey plans.

I work as a Registered Nurse in an ICU. Working toward my BSN, then to my Acute Care NP or CRNA degree. Haven't decided on that yet.

I have a BS in English and I work at Walmart. In the coming weeks I will be applying to graduate school and hoping to God that I get in.

My goal/s is/are to get any job with a Fuzzy Bunny livable wage. Any use of my knowledge from school will be a bonus. I'd like to go into publishing, but the six months following my graduation haven't been exactly kind to me.

I'd ideally like something in publishing or editing, or working from home (IE doing those things for a website and being paid).

Guys, take your ACT/SAT seriously. If a college tells you "oh your scores are good enough", take it again (if you can afford it) to get a better score. That one extra point may jump you over someone else.

I made the mistake and took the ACT once my junior year, got a 32 and was told by my guidance counselor that was just fine. A 33 would have given me automatic admitance into the Pharm.D. program without having to apply for the final 2 years (you do 4 years undergrad work, then apply for the final 2 years to get your Pharm.D. license).

Because my grades didn't compare to other students (3.8 vs 4.0), and I wasn't "diverse enough" (their words, not mine), I wasn't accepted THREE YEARS in a row.

Words of advice, take them or leave them. That's my $24k loan advice....

Market what do you do as a land surveyor?

right now im in the field and my job is to take observations. measure angles, and distances(using a total station) from a known point to calculate the coordinates of a new location. alternatively, if we are not required to be more accurate than a 1/2 inch, then we can use a gps to determine the location.

elevations are also important. we can get rough numbers with gps(1.5 inch accuracy) or total station(1/2inch accuracy) or using a level we can get down to 1/32nd.

often, we are asked to determine boundaries between landowners or create subdivisions. we also can have the coordinates provided for us, and we will show where those coordinates actually are.

later on in life, i will be overseeing the field crews, the drafters(in the office that take the data and create drawings) and calculating staff.

I'm in my first year of university right now, taking statistics, psychology, and computer usage (lol.) I don't really have a plan for what I want to do with my life yet. I was thinking of going into something to do with neuroscience and how drugs affect the mind and body and why, but I'm no good at chemistry. I was also thinking computer programming, but I'm no good at calculus. Then I thought about business, which have different requirements but still probably requires me to take calculus. :/ either way I'm going to have to suffer and learn something I am really bad at.

I got a 26 overall on the ACT. 30+ in reading and writing, mid twenties in math, and teens in science. I hated science, and frankly, our science department was awful. I knew what my strengths were, and what my weaknesses were. I never really gave a Fuzzy Bunny in high school, except in English class. This might have been a mistake, but I don't regret a minute of it. I still graduated with something like a 3.2 GPA. Nothing spectacular, but nothing terrible. It was basic economics. Work my dick off for four years plus just to get into what some people would consider a 'better school' or do basically what I wanted to do which was good enough to get into most schools, namely the ones I wanted to attend.

For grad school they don't give two Fuzzy Bunny about what went on in high school. They care mostly about your references and your application essay (and writing samples in my case, or art samples, or scientific studies, etc). Less on your grades, extracurriculars, and GRE test scores from college. They want to know who you are and whether or not you will be a success, not what the numbers compiled by government suits are.

I've never heard of ACT scores reaching that far. I have friends who stressed far too much over the ACT and it doesn't go any further than college acceptance. This is the first time I've talked about it since 2008. Some people I know who scored well, much better than I, are college dropouts.

I'm just saying. Do what you want to do. If you're able to decide on your goals and set them in high school, that'll be a powerful tool to decide what you need to do to reach them in the future.

I've changed my mind twice so far and depends on how the next 5 years go I might yet change it again. I started out wanting to go to school for Criminal Justice then Business because of working at United and now I'm back to Criminal Justice for a Game Warden.

Market you lost me talking about that :p

I plan on taking the SAT in January mainly because I can't afford it right now and gives me time to study, which I haven't even looked into it TBH... I will take it again

Yeah, I don't look forward to calculus or any science classes. I honestly have no idea how I'm passing this year ( SR in HS ) I'm pretty sure the only class I'm "trying" in is government and I don't even study for the tests... I've always been great in English/writing. Life sucks :p gotta do what you hate to do what you want.

University of Toledo did things so stupid. Foreign students didn't have to reapply at the end of the first four years for the last two years, they were automatically accepted. So you have 400 students fighting for 30 spots (the other 70 went to foreign students).

Now you know why half of the medical world doesn't speak English worth a damn.
