The Village sounds like it should work.
do you know if there is any way to change the name after it is set up?

I don't know, and I haven't been able to find any information on that. I would assume not.

ArenaNet have been staying way busy lately, and they've got another Guild Wars 2 stress test planned for tomorrow. We didn't expect today's test to be the last, but scheduling another one the day after? Our hats off to Anet. Of course, next week's gamescom convention could have something to do with it.

The Friday stress test -- that's August 10, to be sure -- will also be taking place at an unusual time. Rather than the usual noon to 4:00 PM window, tomorrow's will run from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Pacific. It's the typical four hours, but in the evening rather than early afternoon, which should allow more players to participate.

ArenaNet's stress test disclaimer remains, warning participants that the developers are actively working on the game simultaneously, so certain features may be broken and connectivity could be a problem. As always, keep in mind that whatever you experience during these brief testing periods is not representative of the game at launch.

So much testing!

update your game and try tomorrow?

I think the Village should work as the guild name for now. We just have to pick a server now.

My problem is specifically because of a compatibility issue between my video card and the necessary DirectX library files; I've checked the crash logs. I've been trying to get the client working for well over a week now. Besides, as I've said, this is keeping me from being able to update at all.

Hmm, did you try completely uninstalling the game, then reinstalling it? I hope you get it all fixed soon!

Well I replaced my card. It's beautiful. However, GW2 continues to refuse to update. My reaction:

I shall now continue working on the problem...

EDIT: Reinstalled and manually configured a few things. The updater seems to be working for now.

It's stopped working again. What the hell is wrong with this damned thing...

EDIT: Fixed it again. For some reason the .exe for the updater will randomly decide to stop working properly after a while, and I have to keep replacing it (fortunately this doesn't compromise the GW2.dat file). There are so many things wrong with this damned client...

Aw, Eadwulf... well at least it is fixed for now? I hope it all gets resolved once the game releases.

Yes, it's working. I have to occasionally re-download the updater, but other than that it's downloading the patch files just fine.

Alright, we have one week left until the headstart period begins, so I'll take any suggestions for a world/server for the guild. Obviously, more heavily-populated servers are better. I might actually hold off on guild creation until the official release just so I can find a good one. It may be a little early to choose, but I will take any suggestions.

I know a friend and their guild buddies are going to the For Aspenwood world, but I don't know how populated that world will be. When I first played in the BWE, Anvil Rock was heavily populated with people. Jade Quarry was not that bad either.

I'm tempted to go with Anvil Rock simply because its name is a reference to a Tyrian landmark...

My crappy ISP decided to continue being crappy, and due to its horrible DHCP routing it's been interrupting my updates whilst I'm away from my computer. Solution? Tell the Windows task scheduler to restart the updater every 10 minutes. I don't know what I'd do if I wasn't so tech savvy...

The server names are all Tyrian landmarks. Might I suggest Maguuma or Fort Aspenwood as the server since the World v World would be better there (looking at the current powerhouses populating it)

I was referring to Tyria the continent, not Tyria the planet.

Also it appears that it's the update server that's having problems and not my connection. Now I feel like an idiot...

My ISP is still a piece of crap though.

Ah, suggestion still stands. I am leaning towards Maguuma.

Edit: Fixed the problem.

Alright, so, tentative options are Anvil Rock and Maguuma. ANet's official server list didn't give me much information, so I'm probably just going to use the headstart period to figure out what server to base the guild on. That is, if I don't suffer any more technical problems...

Both servers are good with me. If we're going to be focused on pvp, maybe we should head over to Maguuma, though Anvil Rock seemed to have a lot of players when I did one of the first beta weekends.

somethingawful's clan Goon Squad will be based on Maguuma. if or when the crowd here dies off in the first couple of hype months, those left will still have a force behind them to play with in WvWvW.
