...because I have a free day so why not and I know in the front corner are games that I haven't played since probably the late 90s.

In doing so, I found these gems that I thought I'd post.

Image

HOW OLD IS THIS LAPTOP. I'm 95% sure it has Win95 on it. No clue what's on the CD.

Image

It is really thick.

Image

I'm throwing all these away (I have a TON of duplicates, too) but I thought it was funny to lay them all out and see what they were. Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia '96, lol!

Internet providers used to charge you by the amount of time you used their service, NOT by the amount of data usage. Can you imagine?

Free art supplies!

I remember the old Encartas. Need little programs.

I know I used it in the late 90s as my first in-home Starcraft network, so it can run that. All bets are off otherwise.

Actually I think I will boot it up later this week and see if there's anything interesting on it.

LOL!! This is epic!! I remember encarta. I also like your mouse (in the keyboard).

As a youngster, also had cycle mania, doom, warcraft, heretic, and a spaceship game. I forget the name of it but you flew through these compounds and shot lazers at enemy spaceships. It was sweet cause you could literally fly in 3D. And my ship had camo paint

Haha, very nice, that's it exactly! I don't even know how I got it, really, but I've had it for ages. I'll plug it in probably on Tuesday and let you guys know what all the specs are. :D

I turned it on today and immediately got the message "Memory Initialize 16128 KB". 16 MB of RAM, how quaint!

It also had a half-full 1 GB hard drive. It ran pretty fast surprisingly, but it was Win95 (and was making loud noises that at times got concerning, haha.)

Looks like I did use it to play Starcraft, since that was installed on it. The only other things on it were some games (Roller Coaster Tycoon FTW) and seven sound files that my friends and I apparently made around the end of 2000/early 2001. They were made in Microsoft Sound Recorder (haha oh that thing) and then sped up in an attempt to sound like Gir. 12-year-old me had an adorable moderately high-pitched voice.

Lol at "56k TURBO!"

You've got at least 6,250 hours of AOL right there!

I love that they all say "1000 HOURS FREE! (FOR 45 DAYS)"

There are 1,080 hours in 45 days. It's like...they might as well have said 45 days of free Internet, but marketing told them 1,000 hours for a limited time sounded better to people.

Post the sound clips on here. We must listen to them! Also, keep it for Roller Coaster Tycoon. That game was so awesome.

Wow man, those AOL disks are probably collectable now.

My recommendation, buy something like a poster frame, and set all the AOL disks in series. There's a chance... they're the only ones left!
