I claimed Villager last time because at that point everyone but me and two others had claimed some kind of power role, Henry was looking for fellow townspeople so I felt it would be safer than normal to claim.

I'm going to go ahead and speculate on the variant.

Jaron's a Homestuck fan. 'Bifurcate' is a reoccuring word associated with the character Sollux, whose whole gimmick is the number 2. Division by 2, 2 personalities, 2 dream selves, etcetera. Bifurcate itself means to cut into 2. So there's something signifigant about SOMETHING being divided by 2 here.

Continuing with the Homestuck connection, Homestuck is also divided into 'Acts'. Jaron has also asked people to continue watching the topic after death. I suspect at some point, several days in, the game is going to completely change with the transition to Act II, and dead players may get another shot at things.

Ugh. I hope this isn't the case, but it's likely you're on the right track.

I haven't the time, energy, or interest to read Homestuck. I read the first few slides of it and was disinterested.

I hope it isn't a variant based around a webcomic that only a few participants read with any regularity.

if there were no votes for scar, id totally be all up in there :P cause godders would pay me...

but! top, i have never read homestuck. so thanks for sharing! basing off what you said, im also inclined to think there are 3 mafia, which would make the remaining 6 villagers divisible by 2.

its looking like tahu is nothing special :P
either a plain mafia, or plain villager.

I don't think it'll be directly based off Homestuck, I just think it influenced Jaron's choice of terminology.

@ Market

What provoked this comment about Tahu?

....this is a variant. for him to be unaware of this, means he wasnt told in his role PM.

Market makes a good point, and that makes me the third player in as many games to make this kind of misstatement (Godders and Kikori being the other two). Kind of embarrassing, but at least, unlike the other two, it's not incriminating.

This is a variant, hurr durr. Though any suspicion is mitigated by a solid vote.

I'll definitely be able to be fully active in Day 2 and onwards, which is where things actually happen. Also, I was unaware there was a player limit; I apologize if I took a slot that might have been filled by a more active player.

Also, Aragorn for preemptively claiming vanilla townie.

I'm rusty, but I'm not stupid...Who in their right mind as mafia would be the first to claim vanilla townie?

Pretty normal thing for a mafia to do.

Really? Cause that's the opposite of what everyone who was mafia did when I played...it's universally stupid.

Doc's right. Scar claimed vanilla townie last game and was scum. Kikori and Top are outliers in that case. More often than not, it's easier for the mafia to claim vanilla so they don't get tangled up in their lies. A mafioso claiming vanilla townie this early wouldn't make sense, but there's no need in general to claim at this point, either. Minor FoS: Aragorn.

Or 2 mafia.
Or two faction of 2 (mafia, mason, whatever)
Or a lot of other things. It is a variant, don't assume.

Guess 2 really is an important number, since in the past 24 hours there have only been 2 (really pointless and insignificant) posts, by Market.

Compared to the activity of last game, where the hell is everyone? (Topsummoner excluded from this)

Honestly, all I know about Homestuck is that it's the source of those annoying trolls people were RPing as way back when, and I'm not particularly interested in it.

I am familiar with it, but I might not catch ALL the references, so don't rely on me 100% for this.

Never seen anything about Homestruck outside of Runevillage, so my knowledge level is 0 as well when it comes to that. Still we aren't playing Homestruck, we're playing Mafia and regardless of the theme, the game doesn't change a whole lot at its core.

Exactly. At this point, all people are doing is going on about whether or not they know about a game which is NOT MAFIA. Any references towards Homestuck can be discussed if they are made, otherwise can we just concentrate on the game at hand please?

This is the only hint you get about the game's nature: You don't need to know anything about Homestuck at all. I mean really guys, why would I make a game that requires knowledge of stuff that I know you guys don't know about? Sure, I make Homestuck references in the title and stuff, but anyone who knows me probably knows I reference everything everywhere. :P So don't let that get in the way of the game, because Scar said it best: You're playing Mafia, and everyone knows how that goes.

~~~
Whether it was out of fear of killing an innocent man or simply biding time to collect information, the Village managed to accomplish absolutely nothing throughout Day 1. They all decided to return the next day, though, as well as every day after that, until the Mafia menace was purged from their town. This threat wasn't something they were going to take lightly.
Night 1 has begun
(ends ~4:30 AM on Monday the 14th)
The Villagers awoke the next morning to find one of their number had not yet awakened--Dr Henry. They went to his house, trying to keep their thoughts away from fearing the worst.
However, that which they had hoped to avoid had indeed taken place overnight. Dr Henry lay dead in his bed, a black knife protruding from his chest.
Dr Henry - Medical Student - Slain Night 1
Dr Henry had been an aspiring Doctor-in-training. It was a shame that his knowledge of the medical profession wouldn't have been able to save his own life.
Determined to not let his death be in vain, the Village reconvened on the Village Square, getting the noose ready in advance.
Day 2 has begun
(ends ~11:30 CST on May 15th)
8 players remain - 5 votes to lynch
