I love watching F1!
I find it amazing how they can drive with such precision at such high speeds. Knowing the maximum speed for each individual bend. Knowing when the latest they can begin to brake is. Braking as hard as possible without losing control. Knowing how hard to accelerate through each turn. Calculating the fastest route through each turn.

I watch it here and there. Can't really tell you much about who I like, what team I like, etc. I'm more fascinated by the physics and engineering involved. The idea of a V8 engine spinning 18,000 RPM is just mind blowing, considering my little I4 would eat itself alive at 7000 RPM (and it's a built motor). Even more interesting is their displacement is the SAME as my engine, but a much shorter stroke and double the pistons. Just.......amazing. The amount of force on engine internals is so great I don't know how they last even one race without some small bolt coming untorqued, a rod bending, pistons melting, etc.

Referring to the OP. I love Formula 1. All my family know - come Race Weekend, not to disturb! But on a serious note, I will watch the entire Weekends Racing, including Practice, Qualifying and the Race. I have also attended a few Grand Prixs over the past 3 years. Its one of the best Motorsports, if not the best.



I have to add, that if you drive a semi-quick car on a British or European road regularly, you develop the ability to know what Speeds, Brake points etc you need to use. For example, I live in Mid Wales, 'gateway to the coast'. EVERY Summer Holidays when young teenagers in fast cars, Motorbikes, Middle Aged men in modified cars, and 'rich' individuals in there expensive executive saloons. Last year I had a Vauxhall Astra, pushing around 240BHP, I got beat twice. And both times by motorbikes taking there lives into there own hands. The reason? I know the roads very well, and know/knew my car well also.
Its the same with these guys, they have the ability within a few laps of knowing the best racing line, they know the limits of there car. However, the speeds they endure and accomplish such at is phenomenal. Past 120/130MPH is scary - that is cruising speed for them.
And in no way am I 'boasting'. I love Motorsport, I love cars, I love *driving* roads if that makes sense, like most Men do.



They are allocated 8 Engines to use as they wish over the course of the season. Last season: 20 Races, 2013 Season: 19 Races.

Yeah, knowing the roads will make quite a difference. Some people can blow past me when I'm on a long road trip and am unfamiliar with the roads.
