Heya i'm from Singapore and would be looking forward to further my studies in a University somewhere in the US to get my Degree, but my question is for Diploma holders like me with GPA below 3.0, what are the chances of me getting into Uni in the States?? I've seen some that mentions minimum requirement of GPA 3.0 is required while heard some others saying for International Students what matters is really is we could finance our studies.....

Currently have two Universities in mind:

Bond University
Full Sail University

Not sure about the ones you mentioned, but my GPA out of high school was less than 3.0 and I got into several universities. Just make sure to apply to several.

It depends on what university you apply to and what their entry requirements are. At least when I applied at mine, their only requirement was that you write an essay if your gpa is under 2.0.

I know in my state we're having some budget problems that are benefiting people who are from out of state (and probably international). At least at University of Washington, they aren't letting many Washington residents in anymore because non-residents pay more for tuition. It's kind of messed up, but you could play it to your benefit.

Yeah, some universities are very lenient. With a lower GPA, you probably won't get into any really prestigious or big schools, but there are lots of smaller universities both public and private that would be happy to have you.

It depends on what your GPA actually is. A 2.7 is much different than a 2.1. Either way, I don't know if other countries are required to take the ACT or SAT, but I'm sure you have the equivalent. In my experience, standardized test scores are better than GPA. You may want to look into taking the ACT to help you, you could also get scholarships and more loan options if you do well.

Anyway, my university lets people in who have less than a 2.0, but then they enter on academic probation and have to jump through some hoops like attain a minimum GPA and attend tutoring, and perhaps take some special courses.

Like tanks said, apply to lots of universities. If you have extracurriculars, that's great. If you're required to write an essay, wow them with that. GPA is hardly everything.

Finance would probably be the most difficult part I'd say.
In-state fees are fairly cheap.
Out of state is fairly expensive.

And I'm not sure how international is.. maybe more maybe less?
I say it might be less for some areas to encourage international exchange, but I don't know. You might have to check the individual universities in order to find that out.

I'd say check and see different states to see how the rates compare. Some offer scholarships for international students too, but I wouldn't know how that works.

You can definately get into school in the US, man.

My uncle is the head of the economics department at Indiana University Northwest, and he's made trips to other countries to speak with potential students. Uni's WANT international students.

United States probably have one of the best place for Education now and besides with the rapid growth of technology in US, its undeniable that IT people are getting a good headstart there with all these exposures. Another good place will be Australia :) That's just my opinion though.

Well I'm glad you have a plan! :)

...I should have been more specific. I meant: why do universities prefer international students?

Because they don't have to give international students as much financial aid.
