There's a provision in the bill that it doesn't apply to citizens; only to illegals. There's no danger of thought police. It's more like those guys in Logan's run who chase down people who are over the age of 30 and vaporize them.

Obama has stated that he's not going to veto it.

Yep, officially Ron Paul 2012 time.

Damn right. Unsure as to who the Republican candidate is gonna be, not that I'm keen on voting for them anyway given what happened with this bill. Certainly not voting for Obama. Ron Paul it is.

There was epic rage on facebook about this. Something about the government ignoring the wishes of our generation and catering to corporate lobbyists...though I don't see how they have a stake in this one.

Fuzzy Bunny it. I'm going to join the occupy movement and live a meaningful life as a dirty homeless man without direction.

If that's the case, then what is everyone up in arms about? :?:

I was talking to my girlfriend about this, and she compared it to Guantanamo Bay. I told her, quite callously, that foreigners who commit crimes against the US (especially crimes of terror or subterfuge) have no rights under our constitution, as citizens do.

Again, I would have no problem with this bill if it simply read that citizens under suspicion would stand a fair trial. That's all. I'm all for stopping or deterring terrorism of any kind, but again. This bill is offensively unconstitutional.

Nah. The provision states that it CAN apply to American citizens. Those who voted this in have argued that the provision is only meant for American citizens who are suspected of having joined a terrorist group that are openly at war with the U.S.

What everyone is up in arms about is the key word above. "Suspected" means no right to an attorney, no right to remain silent, no right for a trial even, etc...

Yes, don't worry. If you're not a terrorist, you have nothing to worry about. [/sarcasm]

Well, at least if you're not a terrorist when they file the papers. They don't have to prove anything to get rid of you now.

This is absurd. Depending on how well Ron Paul does in the primaries, I may end up voting for him for the Presidency, with everything else Libertarian. Otherwise, I'll vote everything Libertarian.

Oh yes, just replace a single governmental figurehead. That should be the entire difference between tyranny and liberty... (Am I using the right buzzwords?)

1. The provision only states that in that section.

2. Nobody said anything about race. As far as I'm concerned, the race card needs to die.
