Hey, the only reason anyone should be getting an education is to make money.

Bart, stop trying to derail the topic please. Let's stay on track.

Anyway, I don't understand the mindset behind people that go for underwater basketweaving-type degrees. I've heard the argument that they feel more educated and more 'cultured', but that comes at a serious cost. It seems people make that kind of decision and then expect to be able to get a good job with little to no actual skills or education that matter to most careers.

Yes, it's funny how a definite and observable majority of everyone who has a degree in a seemingly obscure field simply keeps declaring some kind of inordinate personal entitlement...

That's the number of people in America who pay Federal income tax, apparently.

Of course they don't take into account the other taxes in the USA...

They don't pay income tax. Income tax is only for people who make more than you so you can knock them down a peg for having more money because they're greedy. [/liberals]

Don't be immature. The majority of liberals support the income tax simply because the rich can afford to put more investment into the government via taxes. Only the hipsters get pissy about not having as much as others.

Pretty sure this thread was originally about a protester having their expensive as hell Macbook stolen, not "Hey let's bash liberals k?" So unless you have every intention of following your own advice...

Everyone who is on a payroll pays income tax, just to a varying degree. Is it fair that millionaires get nearly 50% of their earnings taxed away? Probably not. Do they still have millions and billions of dollars left over? Certainly.

Do you think that money just sits around in a bank with their name on it? No. It gets invested. Do I trust the government with money that could be used for the private interests of people? Hell no.

If you give money to the government, it all gets politicized. No matter what, it will be wasted and squandered in a manner the private sector can't even compare to. Why? Simple: the government is not built to run efficiently. The government is not designed to run efficiently. Anything that goes in there is at the mercy of some altruistic chain of people to make it work, and that doesn't exist. What does exist? More pettiness and bureaucracy than the private sector can imagine. The government has no reason to improve their systems. They can just tax money and spend it. Wait, scratch that; they can spend the money, THEN tax it.

It's fantastic to think the government is reasonable. It's fantastic to think it's an organization that is trustworthy over any other group. The problem is that they're not. The sooner you realize that, and the sooner you demand they stop spending money they don't have and then stealing it from other people, the better off we will all be.

That's what I was insinuating, glad someone got it. :?:

And snake, really...what are you raging at? Before I even get started, you're talking to a conservative (libertarian...whatever). Now. Sure that money gets invested, but where does it get invested? In the cheapest place that ensures the most profit. Offshore. Not in America. So before you get off painting these corporations and people who run them as patriotic heroes, look into just *how* they're investing their money. Because they sure as hell aren't investing it in this country or anyone's interests but their own.

I pay taxes without complaint because it's the law, but moreover, because I HOPE it's going somewhere useful. My state taxes go towards making my neighborhood a better place in a lot of ways. But if it's just the federal government you're picking on, then sure. We don't need a military, we don't need laws or lawmakers, we don't need federal policies like social security and welfare (that's a whole other animal, but some people genuinely need those programs.) etc etc etc

Light reading:

Right here is where your tax dollars are going, as well as details on national debt, etc.

Or the tl;dr version: Image

Could we be spending differently, or more frugally? Without a doubt. Is it fair to literally paint them as thieves? You're right, it is audacious to ask us to pay for the government that runs our country and the programs and things we need.
