After trying the Windows 8 developer preview, I have my own (mixed) feelings on the matter. However, I'm interested to see what others think. Discuss.

You can download the Win8 beta here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/br229516

Be aware this is a clean install only. Installing it will remove all software, setting & files from your computer. You will need recovery media to reload your old operating system.

I honestly haven't even used Windows 7 that much except on some school computers, but I really didn't like it.

Windows 8 will be completely different. It's a tile based layout designed to work on multiple devices.

They're going to have an app store where you can buy programs written in C#.Net and xaml or Javascript & HTML5.

It's really a complete reinvention of the PC.

I want to like it... but it seems to me that compared windows 7 (which I do like very much) it will be very difficult to be very productive on it. Of course, I'm sure it will be vastly improved before the actual release.

I've heard lots of people say that they will not be upgrading to Windows 8, purely because of the new tile interface. And IMHO i don't blame them. I think it's hideous.

Windows 8 gonna sell much...

Runevillage the forum is pretty well much done. Runevillage the group will eventually die, but as long as we're still friends with each other in the end, it's still a pretty big thought in our heads. Runevillage the family is forever, no matter where we settle down. If absolutely nothing else ever comes of Runevillage in the future, that alone is a pretty damn awesome thought.

My first computer only had MS-DOS I believe... I played a game called Jumper on it :3 Doom was like the most awesome game back then.

I downloaded the beta already but haven't found time to install it yet. I haven't read anything about it yet either... so it'll be exciting...

I've not looked into Windows 8 yet, but I don't plan to, I normally skip a OS and then go to the next. I know that compatibility for Windows 7 was horrific at first, and I don't want to go through that whole fiasco again either.

I agree with Jack's image, apart from 95, which I liked as well. I have used every single one of those though. i started off with a PC with just MS-DOS (ahh the good old days), which we then installed Windows for Workgroups 3.1 on. It still booted up in DOS and you had to write Windows to start it up, I thought that was an amazing program at the time.

What might amaze you is I went from 3.1 to ME, now you work that one out ;)

Vista, and ME? They. Were. Horrid. Nuff said, and I unfortunately I do expect Microsoft to hold true to the pattern, lol.

Moose out

Heh, you all had it easy. My first PC was a Windows ME box. she eventually died in the end, and we upgraded to a PIII XP box (fun....)

Never used Vista. I've had to fix vista a few times, but never had the misfortune to actually own a Vista box. IMHO the only two really great Windows versions are XP and 7. 98 was good, but it was just hampered by terrible design flaws

I don't think Windows 8 will be good for PCs, but it looks very promising for tablets.

I actually liked 95, but I was young when I used it. So not sure.

Vista was actually fairly good, it was sort of a stepping stone between XP and 7 however and thus needed refinement. I have both Vista and 7.
