Hey errbody,

I was just checking to see how many of you invest in the stock market. I know Sah invested and was apparently quite successful at it, but he's not around anymore.. I am also wondering if anyone knows a site that could tell me how the S&P500 was doing overnight and if anyone has any tips for a beginner investor like me.

I started trading in May and I find it extremely fun to play, i recommend everyone put some money aside or save until you have a tidy little sum and start trading. The market is quite volatile these days, fluctuations up and down can make you uneasy, but if you develop a system and stick with it, it really helps.

Anyways, just checking :D

but if you don't wana spend real money as want to play for fun then take a look at http://www.hsx.com/.

I'm a senior in college with barely the extra money to EAT, so no; I haven't invested in stocks. I did, however, (and I have learned many other school districts did this), play an investing game in a high school economics class. We took 'fake money' and invested in the real stock exchange. Our teacher made it interesting, giving prizes (gift certificates for two to anywhere the person wanted to eat dinner) to the top three people.

I found that the market is actually pretty simple to read and invest in, whereas before I found them kind of daunting. I invested in Toyota and in exxon mobile, I believe, which kind of hovered around the same. I then invested the rest of my money in penny stocks, which is risky, but if the company actually takes off you can make a TON of money. This was in 2006-2007.

I have every intention of investing once I have some extra money.

My mom got my brother a book about investing a few years back and I read it over the summer. It was interesting, but I had neither the money nor enough motivation. I might try it later on in life, though. :D

Well, statistically speaking, slightly more than a giant suckusaur. A dire one.

Ive always been interested and think in the next few months will take a chance with a few shares.

My Dad used to have a look of shares in different companies and we always used to have to watch the share pages on TV to see what was moving up and down!

I am saving all my investing money for now. The shareholders require you to be employeed for a minimum of 2 years before they offer you to become a shareholder.
720 days to go :P

And you just assumed you paid money in and it would guarantee you a profit? Don't you think everyone would do it if that were the case?

"Investing" is quite a bit more complicated than any of you are giving it credit for. Quality investment managers are very rare. The odds that anyone on this site can outperform the market average over any decent period of time is slim.
