I was thinking more along the lines of video guides, etc. à la Rooster Teeth. Something accessible and easy to make; videos arguably take a lot less time to create and implement than a fully illustrated guide. Aside from that, who the hell actually reads anything these days? You ever try to look for a Minecraft tutorial that isn't a damned video? It's bloody impossible. If I ever get my system upgraded I can actually record video, but there's no telling when/if I can get that done.

I'm not sure I could just stop over this... although I understand why so many people feel that way. But for me... it's the game itself I love. Not the staff behind the making of it. I salute Paul & Andrew for making it happen, seeing they had nothing to do with this. RuneScape should still have it's own section on the page because of the fact that almost every active member on this forum still plays it. I don't think any other game will come along in which we will ALL grow to love.

I didn't mean to imply that we should shove Runescape off of the site entirely; what I meant is that if we want to add new content to the site and expand a little, we should focus on something current and a little less niche-oriented.

Bear in mind that I am not talking about the forums here, people. I'm talking about the main website. You know, those several pages upon pages of content that nobody reads anymore?

I think you misunderstand. We're not axing our runescape support. We're just adding more games to it.

And I joined like 8 years ago, but I definitely have not been playing RS that long, and do not really harbor much love for the game.

I've been here since june 05, except for a hiatus in 08-09 iirc because i was bannzored. And I can say with 100% certainty that the active users have always contributed or tried to help with this site, its just they have dwindled.

General chat though is more alive then ever ;)

Yes we have. But the RVET is and will not be dead :^_^: in fact we might grow... we have some restructuring as well going on at the moment.

Not sure about this, whilst the decision to remove Hiker was the right one, you should continue to strive to regain Jagex's support. That was your main source of traffic, without it the village's population can only go south.

I highly doubt their (Jagex's) decision was permanent, and if they specified that it was I'm sure it can be talked down.

Interesting, you believe Jagex is reasonable.

Wow, reading all of that was shocking and unexpected. I'm glad it's not the end of the village and wish you all the best in moving forward.
As for expanding into different games, I'd say Minecraft is indeed a good one. It seems I can't get rid of that addiction ;)

My nature being "go w/ the flow", I'm cool w/ whatever. I don't really play other games, and seldom play RS anymore, so my opinion/s on the gaming things are null/void.

I would be very willing to write guides (or perhaps just articles) or create videos about Guild Wars 2, videos could be a bigger success if they're done by multiple people though (or at least narrated by multiple people)

I haven't been around much lately, searched RV in Google and it came up with the news outing Hiker.

Got to say I always half suspected it.

In my opinion the best thing to do would be to have whoever officially owns the content of the site to give full rights over it to Henner and then close RuneVillage.

Forsake all ties with Hiker and the name RuneVillage as it will now always have those negative connotations, the Internet doesn't forget.

A new site should then be started, there is no realistic way to stop Hiker from using the new site but a request for him to stay away for the good of the community should be issued.

Rebrand the RV content and use it to populate the new site and move the community there, it is the community that made this place special not Runescape, the name RuneVillage or a forum theme.

Start again with a small site and a small enthusiastic community and see which direction it takes.
