With a little help from MineEdit and MCEdit to get a blank map and all the redstone etc I need, I've been playing around with redstone circuits.

Here's what I've got so far, nothing too complicated yet:

Damn, actually, Minecraft keeps crashing for some reason, maybe it's this Windows update I just installed, I think I'll try a restart.

But anyway, I've made a half-adder (which basically returns a binary output for however many levers you've pulled, up to 2, showing 00 for 0, 01 for either 1 pulled, and 10 for 2) and a full-adder (same thing but 3 levers, 11 for 3, 10 for 2, 01 for 1 and 00 for 0)

I have a saved picture of the full-adder, and I'll take one of the half-adder later when I get Minecraft working:

Image

As you can tell that's just a top down view. The doors to the right are the output, behind the doors are gold blocks lit up with torches so it's easier to tell which one is open at night, an open door = 1, closed = 0. To the left are the 3 levers, this is actually a slightly older picture, in the newer version all the levers are in line with each other, and there are 2 not gates between where the third lever is now and where it used to be in order to extend the wiring.

Anyway it's all very basic, it's only 1-bit, and it took me about 30 minutes to make both - most of that time was just fixing the wire crossover points. I could probably simplify it and make it smaller but eh.

Going to work on a 4-bit adder next.

Edit: For anyone who wants to make the full adder and is unsure of what all the gates are, I labelled them:

Image

Also, it was the Windows update that was the problem, got Minecraft working again, so here's an unlabelled and labelled pic of the half-adder:

Image

Image

Edit2: Download link for full-adder save (which has both the half-adder and full-adder in it), rename folder to World1/World2/World3/whatever, also you need 7zip to open it since this is a fresh Windows install and I haven't installed Winrar yet because I'm lazy.

Edit3: Although I used MCEdit to make a clean map, I built the adders by hand, and will be doing the same for the 4-bit one.

Finished my tower on the outside at least, also made a nice looking floor between my tower and my small house/entrance to my mine:

I will make obsidian structures/floors for anyone who wants them. It just may take some time depending on how large it is.

Also Steely I love your sphere.

So, I believe I have finished all work on the sphere. I decided not to finish off the top, so it's more of an inverted dome, because the top level just looked too nice. Pictures below.

What it looks like from the outside.

Image
First level, the main foyer. Stairs up go to the farm and to the top level. Stairs down are behind the pool, go to the work room and portal room. All the way back is the entrance to a giant maze I built.

Image
Maze entrance. Prize at the moment is 3 pumpkins, will probably up it to 4 by the weekend. It's a tough maze.

Image
Sample of the maze, doors are their for added confusion. If I get bored and want to be really evil, and SMP allows it, I could always put some random pulse generators underneath them...

Image
My farm, complete with cact, papyrus, trees, and wheat (can't really see that part).

Image
Top layer of the sphere, was a pain to get grass up that high. Standing atop a little mountain I made to take the picture.

Image
Glitch conveniently blocking out the ceiling for a better view. Work room, full of storage, furnaces, workbenches, etc... Along with an infinite water pool, troughs for making obsidian, and an incinerator. Levers and the iron door are a backdoor entrance to the maze.

Image
Aaaand my portal room. Giant obsidian chamber at the bottom of the sphere. The ceiling and floor are three blocks apart so the portal is made by two columns coming out of the ground, connecting the two.

Finally got to play tonight, having a lot of fun. :D

By the way, my brother wants to know if he can join our server. He practically spends all day playing Creative mode as it is (though he knows that's different than Survival obviously.) He builds elaborate things like the Parthenon all the time and sometimes does mock-ups in Google SketchUp first so that he gets it right or something. :-s Here's a pic of some underground city he made on someone's random server. (Apparently other people connected the road tunnels and made more areas like it, lol.)

Four lava traps, each will have eight platforms for mobs to spawn on, about 13x13 for each platform. All traps filter loot to a central pickup-point on the bottom floor of the sphere.

I'm still getting the
internal client error: java.net.... timed out error
I usually only get that when the server's offline.

*just got on now

** has anyone noticed it's harder to login now?
I've tried like 20 times to get onto the server with a whole host of errors...

---------------------------------------------------------------

Ok I've noticed the hub has gone untouched for a while so I have a proposal.

phase 1:
Hidden:
Image

Cut out arches on the upper tiers and then the bottom tier's archways lined with obsidian.

phase 2:
is to replace the bottom 2 levels of the bottom with obsidian to creeper-proof it.

phase 3:
would be to replace remaining cobble with half stone since it's nicer. Or at least most of it with half.

then lastly work on the interior. which can be done at the same time by anyone who wants to design it.

Finished the last of the arenas today so they're 100% playable now.

Top two arenas are the small and large arenas of 1 layer of wool.

Bottom arena is the 3 layer arena.
It can be set up with any material so long as the bottom isn't a gravity active block.
Right now it's set up as 2 layers of sand with 1 layer of dirt.

Each arena has a 2x deep catching pool so they're safe too.

This would be so much more impressive if the mouth was open and that was the entrance

I assumed so since I have always had to use pig meat on a fire to consume it :S

Anyway, I kinda went insane with my beach...the map hasn't updated yet completely but in total I placed about 830 torches...

I like your modern five-square pond scar. My city, (when finished) is also based on that design. as the old pics showed.

Added the logo just for fun

I suppose I should dub it the "Fortress of Solitude" now

there's nothing inside of the walls, really, just a mine and cave system underneath and a little bit of farmland

I've come up with my final plan for ember. It takes the best of both of my designs and smashes them together.

1. The original I made in creative
2. The one I was planing for SMP
3. The final and best one

First question: Do you know how electricity works?

Also twin, I set my home.

Anyway, as for my current project, the entrance is finished; see below.

That water-covered stairway leads to an underground tunnel. Through there one can get to the top of that "pinwheel".

My digging out of ember is finally completed!
Now all I have to do is make the buildings and street.
The street is made of obsidian, so any lava would be a great help to me.

I don't just want to fight mobs. I want the excitement of not knowing whats around the corner in a unexplored cavern, or of being on the lookout for creepers when outside my base. It's fun. When people constantly make it day, it's like playing on peaceful, just not as fun.

Also, shared this on reddit earlier (400+ 500+ 600+ points, awwww yeeaahhh). Now for your enjoyment:
