try swimming scar!
having to hold your breath as you use legs, arms and ab muscles really causes you to increase your cardio.

and that will always help any race!

good luck bud :)

Well, just another update for those who may be interested. We have now run the course successfully the whole way through 3 times.

Oddly enough I find my biggest issue at this point isn't endurance, I don't have any big problems with being out of breath, it's my lower legs. When we get into the last half mile or so of the course my calves are very sore and that is the hardest part about finishing the 3.1 miles.

Anyone have any advice for fixing that issue?

Uphill running and sprints should fix that. Calves are worked a lot harder running on uneven terrain, you just need to strengthen them a bit.

Huzzah!

I ran the race this morning and finished with a time of 31:40. I am ok with that time since it was my first one and I am hoping to drop down to 21:00 by this time next year.
