I'm training a new 1 def pure whenever I have time/interest in RS...

My problem here is that I'm not sure which monster is good to train on. I am F2P and have been killing cows lately... They're not bad, except they're way too crowded for good experience.

Thanks for ya help :D

Ooh yeah, training my strength up, btw.

Haven't done low level melee training for awhile - It's hard to say. Cows, the goblin hut, chickens... hard to say which is best seeing as they're all botted now.

Heh, now that you mention it, it does seem like they're all bots... :\

Start reporting all of them for botting? I always trained cows then moved to Hill Giants.

I've decided on minotaurs, they seem to be pretty good exp and the drops aren't too shabby :)

Minotaurs are ideal for this. Cows would have been my recommendation before F2P became so overrun due to popular botting scripts that take literally five minutes to set up.

Before the HP update, cockatrices were very popular for low defense pures, because they had a damage cap of 1, though they were quite accurate. Due to the HP update however, the 0.4 (=4 these days) damage hits that would have splashed before now hit you, so you almost always take damage when they attack. This makes them unsuitable.

The moral of the story? Stick with minotaurs for the time being. If you are planning on purchasing members, once you get to a higher level pest control may be a solid alternative, since there is no death penalty.

EDIT: Hill giants were mentioned. I've never used these for training 1 defense pures before, so I can't really comment on how effective they are, but since their attacks are crush style this might work once you are stronger. These will probably require food. Also, apologies if this is old enough to be considered a gravedig. I imagine you're already high enough level to move on to hillies.

Hill giants are good experience, but wherever they are is generally crowded. Try worlds that are near empty, nearly full, but have a theme, or go to a different language server thingy.

Oh man Jan, you just got zinged by Riptide. How much does THAT suck?

Well, statistically speaking, slightly more than a giant suckusaur. A dire one.

Naw, no gravedig. I appreciate all your responses in to my question. To be perfectly honest, I haven't played Runescape for a while now, game got boring again.

To anyone wishing to seeing what I think about Minotaurs: They're decent experience, the multi-combat environment they reside in makes training easy. Sometimes you compete with higher level characters, probably botters, and it hinders how quickly you can accumulate experience. They drop mostly iron arrows, which is good for anyone wanting to train range and you also get the occasional gem (sapphire, emerald, ruby) here and there.
