Didn't John imply when talking to Karkat the first time (from Karkat's perspective) that Karkat had been speaking with him out-of-reverse-timeline to think up the "Send Jack to troll's session" idea? Karkat hasn't had the conversations with John yet. So if he's in trouble, it's definitely not immediately.

Yeah, pretty much. Outside of the few memos that show Karkat as being alive past the CRITICAL MOMENT, the start of Act 5 act 2 also adds to the plot armor he is currently wearing.

Even still, Karkat is currently looking at an enraged highblood with the strongest weapon for the hammerkind abstrata.
