Our server host will be upgrading our server in the next 24-72 hours. While no down-time is anticipated, I'd like to give everyone a head's up, just in case.

We will move to a completely new machine which will give us twice the memory at twice the speed, which should show an improvment in performance, although our performance has been good since moving to the current company.

For those using our IP#, it will change as a result of this move.

They will continue to run the old server for several days, forwarding to the new one, to give time for our DNS changes to completely propagate.

Again, there should be no down-time as a result of this upgrade. Down-time would only be incurred if there was some problem with the server transfer. And as a just-in-case, Glodenox as been keeping us completely backed-up off-site to prevent things like the Great Data Loss of 2009.

Current server is great, haven't noticed any issues with speed or downtimes. But hey, if we can afford an upgrade, why not. I still remember those annoying general errors you'd get every 2 days with the previous one...

You're right-- we've not had any server issues with this new company.... and this upgrade is free... :)

At the moment, the chat is down. Since I'm unable to safely access the server from university, I'll start up the chat software again in roughly 4 hours from this post.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Greetings,
Glodenox

There we go. Chat back online.

I'm now going to figure out how I can automate the startup of the server in case of a reboot.

EDIT: done. From now on, the chat server should start up automatically when the server boots.

Greetings,
Glodenox

I'm getting this error, like 5 seconds:

Quote:
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@runevillage.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Running again. I can't really tell from the logs what's happening, but I recompiled the server and adjusted the script that should start up the server (I was missing a line that would remove the locking file, should there be one).

Greetings,
Glodenox

The downtime seems to be related to the upgrade since I can see changes in the amount of processing cores that the server now has. Also, I'm happy to see that the chat started itself up automatically as intended.

So much for the "no downtime" promise of the host though :(

Greetings,
Glodenox

Wait, so should we expect more downtimes like this in the future?

Please say no. Even if it's not the truth.

Have we ever had downtime problems with this host? No. I rest my case.
