I think I worded what I said wrong.

I don't support attacking other fan sites at all, that would definitly be a waste of man power and time. What I was talking about was telling either Jagex or the owners of the offending fansite about that Ads so they can be removed.

My example was worded oddly as well. What I meant was that it a Platinum level site has ads for Runescape Cheats or Exploits and those Ads lead someone to be scammed it hurts the reputation of all the fan sites. That could lead a person to think "Wow, someone got scammed off of an Ad and it was on a Platnium level site, if that's the kind of stuff that goes on at that high rank imagine how bad sites below it must be"

Again, I wasn't trying to support an attack on other sites, I've been a member of RHQ since it began and wouldn't want anymore harm to come to it than to RuneVillage.

While getting help is a little scarce currently those users on the inner sanctum are not helping the cause. I know of more than one user that has offered help, only to pull back and retreat because of how they were treated by people running the show. I know this is not their intention but it has been happening. Maybe it's time to re-evalute how things are dealt with?

Notice how the staff members think everything is fine and dandy yet normal users including those who have attempted to help out do not? Wake up to yourselves guys. You do a fantastic job but you need to accomodate for other peoples suggestions and input. Things shouldn't be viewed in black and white.

And to those who may have hinted towards reporting RuneHQ, go take a good look at yourself and then bow your head in shame. Their name should have stayed anonymous.. This name and shame thing doesn't make any forward progress. We (the Village) and them (RuneHQ) share a common goal. To create the best fan site and community that we can. You may not like them, you make think they are getting preferential treatment, they may have banned you, you may disagree with their rules and ideals but at the end of the day they are not your enemy. Work on making this site the best that it can be. No one wins a Fuzzy Bunny fight. Everyone gets covered in Fuzzy Bunny.

Hey, I'd like to hear more about this... we are pretty feedback oriented and not fixed minded at all. Did that particular person give his opinion to the staff or did he just retreat to discourage other members? Can you give an example? Because I can't see what you are talking about.

This.

Things can seem crazy behind the scenes which is why a user may have been driven away. We also have certain standards in guide structure simply due to the planned layout of RV2, which may have discouraged at least one user I can think of. But other than that, I've witnessed nothing but positive attitude, and heard no complaints.

If we think everything is "fine and dandy," it's because we've yet to hear any different first hand. All I've seen is what's in this topic; Users talking about how other users said it was a bad experience. Where are those users, and why can't they offer us the feedback to improve? We're certainly not against it, but we have to know the hows, whys, whos, and whats in order to identify and resolve whatever issues may exist.

Help us help you help us.

What needs coding on RV2.0 ?

I can help if needed ?

Im sorta working on something to Give RV - ill give you guys more details as it is closer to finishing.

dont think any other fan sites have something similar ?

Also guide writing - from when i used to play more - RV was pretty quick - but hidden in forums, rather than advertised on the main page

Again not sure if that is still the case.

You'd need to talk to the Website Team leaders about that, reggie - Glodenox would probably be your best bet concerning coding.

As for guides: I tend to be the one writing the guides for the newest quests. Depending on life situations and how long editing/coding takes, we usually get the new guides up on the site anywhere from day of release to... Whatever day I get membership back after being f2p. :shifty:

Coding shouldnt even be there imo, When i used to do guides, the coders made it look pretty with BB code, all i used to do was replace, for example [b ] with <b>

That should auto update to the main site, Im not sure if that is a RV2.0 feature, but it would be SUCH a useful one to have

If Jagex wants to play that game, then they're going to need to provide compensation equal to or past the funds we get from Google ads. This is actually ridiculous.

Feh, it's true. I normally use Tip guides too. Just that they are not as detailed. Had to switch to our guide to find out what to do.

those who use tip.it's guides--- WHY?

especially with comments like:
Quote:
Just that they [tip.it] are not as detailed. Had to switch to our guide to find out what to do.

why would you use their guide if it's not as detailed as ours??

why would you use their guides at all??

Hiker - Well, I just became a member for the first time in years and what I've noticed is that the skill guides are more user friendly (especially for new membs) and easier to navigate through in both tip.it and rs wiki. In addition to that, Rv lacks a Summoning guide. As for quests, I use RS Wiki + RV guides for those, just in case one guide doesn't make sense to me, I can check out what the guide says.

There has been a large amount of trouble on that front. As far as I know, it's done.
However, upon it's completion in '08, Donut (the leader of the Guide Writers back then), moved it to the Admins forum. When the rollback took place, Donut resigned, Jack stumbled upon the topic and moved it back into Guide Writers, citing the need to go through it and see if it requires updates (since it was made in '08). That has not yet happened, and there hasn't been a post on it since September. It's not even in the same format as RV's guides are in now, from what I've seen.

I use Tip.it guides for:

Treasure Trails and Combat Calculator.

RS-Wikia for:

Quests, any information on items and Runescape in general (history, places, etc).

Why?

Tip.it's Treasure Trail Guide firstly exists, and is top notch. It has every single clue-leg possible and in all on one page so it's easily accessible. It's the only place I know of that has a functioning Combat Calculator.

I use RS-Wikia's quest guides and other quest guides purely out of habit these days. This habit probably started due to the fact that I've always had troubles with Runevillage's in the past. I think a lot of people still incorrectly perceive Runevillage's quest guides as poor quality despite the work that has been put into fixing them. Hopefully the complete overhaul of RV 2.0 will help us alter that perception.

I use it for general Runescape information as it is a wikia after all. It is also very accessible with its search function.

---

By the way, this isn't a rant, just answering Hiker's question.
