Not to mention, it makes the voter seem scummy if they use that as a basis to lynch someone.

Because it's a way of saying "Hey, I'll do something useful" that has nearly never been followed through with. Meaning they're trying to find a reason for us to believe they're attempting to contribute so we'll trust them and not target them, but wait for someone else to cause trouble.

Mafia keep from being suspicious quite often by making themselves look useful with contributions that answer small questions or give promise, but don't put the poster on the front lines of suspicion if something goes wrong... Such as voting later rather than starting a vote train.

Many roleclaims in conventional games can be used as evidence against people. A detective claim, for example, usually results in one of two things. A villager honestly claims detective and gets results (which, upon death, help the village not kill their own), or a mafia claims detective and gets to say "___ turned up villager" until people figure it out. When a mafia claims, you'll probably see "counterclaim" come up, in which the real person of that role says "No, I'm the ___", and funny stuff happens after that.
I specified "conventional" games 'cause this is Upick. Everyone has a role. So it's up to perspective if the role description (and how it works with what actually happens in the night) is scummy or not.

I'm going to vote for J@nrok. I'm equally suspicious of Kikori since it seems both of them are pointing fingers at one another. However, unless we have some sort of roleblocker, I'm afraid that Kikori's role will hurt us more then the mafia if he does die. But then again, that would be a villager vs villager case. Which means Kikori is a mafia member, or is lieing about his role. Either way, I don't think J@rnok has claimed anything yet. So unless he can prove himself more harmful if he dies then Kikori, my vote isn't changing. Though I question why a villager would have a village negative role, albiet slightly random.

Kikori's role being slightly random, incase that didn't make sense. o.o
